Dick Overbey Discography
I just learned about Dick from the Crying Steel thread and love his playing. I would like to get some LP's/CD's that he plays on. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Jim

Dickey Overbey
He did almost all ( if not all )of Amber Digbys releases and he did Hank Williams Jr's Whiskey Bent and Hell bound. Certainly one of the greatist players in history

Amber Digby: The World You're Living In
Amber Digby & Midnight Flyer: Live at Swiss Alp Hall
Amber Digby: Another Way To Live
Amber Digby: Passion, Pride & What Might Have Been
Amber Digby: Here Come the Teardrops
Amber Digby & Justin Trevino: Keeping Up Appearances
Dicky Overby & Bobby Flores: Christmas in Ol' San Antone
Dicky Overby (solo steel): HonkyTonkMemories.com (try southlandrecords.com for this one)

Thanks Graham; you are AMAZING as always. I miss Dicky so much. Many folks don't know; but I was the one that set Dicky's last Sho~bud's for him(last D-10 Pro II and LDG) every couple months or so. I would change strings and set all movements just like he liked and the best part was when Dicky would call me and say: "Ricky; the bud is playing perfect; how do you do that??"....and I would always respond with: "dicky if I told you, than you would never call me to thank me"...ha....and he always laughed and I would too; even though I was SERIOUS...ha....
I never met a man with more passion for music and life.
RIP Dicky; we all think about you all the time.

A lot of people probably also don't know that he was a song writer as well as a steel guitar player.
Darrell McCall recorded 4 of Dickys' song in the late '60's .
I'd Love To Live With You Again
Hide And Go Cheat
Yours And His
Don't Tell My Wife
Sally Bryson
Lloyd Green was the steel player on most of these sessions back then but Dicky played on 2 of the 5 sessions that included his songs.
They were all done on the Wayside label and can be found now on the 5 disc set from Bear Records. Two of the songs were never released on the Wayside label - Yours and His and Don't Tell My Wife.

And one more for you, Jim... Here's Dicky at his best backing up Amber Digby...probably my favorite break ever on Together Again - a full minute starting at 0:55.

This is on the Amber Digby & Midnight Flyer "Live at Swiss Alp Hall" CD.

Very early in his career he played on some local San Antonio recordings by the Metheny Brothers and Lee Harmon (Harmon Bozeman). Some of them were on youtube at one time--not sure if that's still true.
I think he is on Darrell McCall's "Reunion" LP that came out I guess in the 1980s on vinyl LP. I think it was later re-issued on CD as well.
Did he ever record with Connie Smith while a member of her band?

I'll Be There" was mentioned earlier. For those who haven't heard it, it's a "must hear." Conveniently this YouTube clip seems to have the steel track boosted, so enjoy.

Dickie was probably the best in Texas, which is saying something. He played highly innovative steel while still playing hardcore steel the way you always wanted to hear it.
