Can you index a given time on a YouTube video?
I often use YouTube to practice with - greatest thing ever invented to help the learning process.
It helps me to be able to take a steel break, or even just a phrase, and play it over several times to fix it in my head. That's not hard to do when it's a one-song clip.
However, sometimes the video is an hour-long performance, and it can be tough to back the thing up just 10 or 12 seconds. With that much time, even a very slight move of the thingy at the bottom can back it up a minute or two, then I overshoot coming forward. And so on.
Is there a way to index a given time on the video to back up to, like you used to be able to do with the old VCR machines? SO it will just go back to 26:29 or whatever without having to FIND it each time? I tried right clicking and exploring various boxes but can't seem to find how. Is it right there under my nose, or can't it be done?
Thanks!

I don't know of a way to do that.
How about downloading the entire clip and then editing the download so it contains only the particular portion of the video that interests you? That's easily done.
Or you could record the audio of the portion that interests you---but that won't work if you need the video as well as the audio for your practicing purposes.
I'm sure there are easy ways to make a tape loop of the edited video if needed. So, if you have a 10 minute video, with 15 seconds you want to practice on, download the 10 minutes, cut it down to 15 seconds, then put that 15 seconds in a repeating playback loop that does not require further interaction from you.
There are probably ways to capture (video record) only certain segments of a video as it plays in real time on youtube, but that's beyond me and why I mentioned downloading.

This site will help ----> http://youtubetime.com
That site will create a url that will start a youtube video playing at any time you specify.
Go to the youtube video and Copy the web address of the video, and then go to the site linked above and Paste the address there and specify when you want the video to start playing... for example, 2 min. and 34 seconds. The site will generate a url. Copy and Paste that to your browser. The video will start at the specified point. To replay the video just refresh your browser and it will restart at the point you specified.
Here's one I made to start playing at Curly Chalker's solo ----> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHBdUuYKM6I&t=0m54s

Do a Google search for "Video file splitter". There are a lot of free ones.
If you want and can afford a real good video editor that does everything,
get PowerDirector. For Windows 7 and above you'll need Version 13 or 14.
I use it all the time for making my DVD's. I split very large files into many
small files and create a chapter for each one. then you can repeat any one
over and over and go anywhere you want to. Best place to buy is Amazon.
When PowerDirector 13 is gone you won't be able to get it anymore

Here's another one with a free trial that'll do whatever you need.

At the end of the video's url, add the following:
&t=XXmYYs
Where XX = the MINUTE mark and YY = the second mark.
For example, if you wanted to start the video at the 31 minute, 47 second mark, you would add this to the end of the url:
&t=31m47s
To start at the 3 minute and 5 second mark would be:
&t=3m5s
&t=XXmYYs
Where XX = the MINUTE mark and YY = the second mark.

Steve, I tried that and could not get it, altho maybe I have to make an entirely new url and paste that instead of adding the "&t=..." etc to the one already open.
BUT - I DID have some luck with right clicking, selecting "copy video url at current time" and opening that in a new window. When I refresh, it starts right back where it was. So you did help - and I will also investigate the other suggestions above.
FWIW, here's what I was working on, the steel starts maybe 5 seconds in:

Thanks again for all the suggestions!
