push pull cuts in at 3:01 like a hot knife thru the butter... I can almost bet my life on it.... at 3:07 you can clearly hear the thing growling ... if this is an MSA I will eat my hat tomorrow....

ha, I just checked the olds thread, I guess I will be eating my hat tomorrow lol ... great tone on that MSA Classic, my favorite on the recording... didn't really like the push pull tone, I guess I am more of an "clear sound" man ... great test, I would never guess MSA Classic would sound that clean and clear, another proof that MSA are well under appreciated guitars...

Damir, I think the pickup has a lot to do with the sound on the old MSA's. This one had the narrow, single coils that MSA used in the early '70s. Maybe it was just this one, but it had a great sound. Fred King owns it now.

Just as tube amps give guitars a little more character to the tone. .. anyone who thinks the older MSAs lack a little in character should give a tube amp a try. ..I gig with an MSA and a Peavey Bandit Transtube and it always floors me how much happier I am with my tone compared to running through my Vegas... which. .. incidentally sounds great with my push pull.

As for Darvins experiment. ..I believe he indicated that the eq controls never changed for each steel...On my push pull there is a spot on the amp eq controls where something very unique happens that I haven't heard on another guitar.

Nice to hear props for MSA. I have a U12 that I was gonna sell but changed my mind. It has killer tone. I will use it for jazz gig, D10 Legrande for backup/classic country type situation and last but not least my little secret weapon GS 10 push pull for everything else. I do love this little thing! I don't even break it down. It is super light, just pick up and go. About to paint it soon, then maybe send it off for lever upgrade. I have to say the festival gig I played with it for first time it just rang like a huge brass bell! It was so alive! Like holding an electric eel in your hands that makes music! All 3 have super vibe. Hard to say which one sounds best. Hard to beat that MSA for that wonderful maple tone. Legrande is just super classy and GS 10 is the loose cannon ass kicker. Push pull is cool. I just need to learn more about maintenance and setup. I can see what guys go crazy for them. But at same time I will keep both my all pulls handy.

that gs10 should be very simple to work on. it would be a good place for you to begin learning about your equipment.

Lately I have been getting tone to the bone on my PP, love it, love it, love it. The more country we are the more great tone I am getting. Every Sunday at Jubitz truck stop in Portland.

I agree, killer picking. Buddy always shines for me no matter what guitar he was playing. I think there were some tests done on the forum that showed you can't consistently pick out the push pull. I think I read somewhere that Buddy himself couldnt tell the difference between a recording he did with a push pull and I think an EMCI or Sierra (not sure which one).

I am a push pull fan.

I just bought my first push - pull. A 1968 Emmons. I have owned 2 ShoBuds a Zum and a Fessy. Been playing since 1978. I just received the Emmons yesterday and pulled it out of the case. Tuned it up and plugged it into the Peavey amp with the exact same settings as I was using on the Zum. The minute I hit the first chord I knew why guys like push pulls. It's heavier, more complicated mechanism and way more difficult to change copendants. In fact I am going to drive it out to Jim Palenscar in California labor day weekend to set me up. The tone completely blew me away. So bright and crisp with a sweetness that has never come from my hands before. I should have bought one years ago.

I am guessing this is the "I love my Push Pull " thread !

I own two Sho Buds, one is the latest Super Pro cast pullers design system and the other is the two hole puller system. The two hole puller system, well, in contrast has a growl that makes me stand to attention, it forces me to play differently , it forces me to play "to the axe". I love it.

But I have a dilemma. I have a D10 Push Pull coming . So at the end of next week I suppose I'll have to sit and ponder...
