My dream was to play with Red Foley and his Cumberland Valley Boys including Grady Martin.

George Morgan and Carl Smith were two others.

In 1964 or thereabouts, I finally got to play with Carl Smith for one set one evening. What a thrill.

Yeah, Gary would have been one of my picks, too! Others would have been Bill Phillips, Narvel Felts, Rex Allen Jr., and Stan Hitchcock.

Jim, I never listened much to Linda except what made it to the Top 40. Did she have steel on most of her songs?

The fifth Beatle! Of course, Mike! :) (Come to think of it, did they ever use pedal steel on any single track? I know there was a little lap steel here and there, but not PSG?)

Jim, as far as I know, they never used a pedal steel guitar on any of their recordings, although Lloyd Green played on one of Paul's post-Beatle records.

They should have used one on Yesterday instead of the strings. Can you imagine how popular the steel would have become if they had?

The fifth Beatle always makes me laugh...Uh Huh uh huh Yeah.

Herb played on Linda's songs? I am sheltered.

I can say that I got to play with Wynn Stewart for an evening. He hired our band to back him up in Glenn Rose Texas back around 1982.

Not to mention you. A sterling idea. George Martin would have liked it, but didn't know.

What songs of Ronstadt's songs did Herb play on? I'd like to listen to them. I know he played in her band, but didn't know he recorded with her. That is so cool.

Herbster can pop in with the definitive history on this. As far as I know, he played in an early incarnation of the Stone Ponies but did not record with her. I didn't intend to imply otherwise.

In reality, I'd like to play steel with Frank Zappa.

Mike P, you did such a masterful job on the face (that is almost looks like me!) I couldn't resist making it your new avatar.

High on the bucket list would be to play some "good" country while fronting a large symphony orchestra with a zillion strings singing in the background.
