A problem copying files - OK to close

Post by Richard Sinkler »

I am having some issues copying files. I have a folder on an external drive hooked to my laptop that I am trying to copy to a usb thumb drive. The folder is 104GB (with several subfolder, and the subfolders also have more subfolders) and I am trying to copy to a 128GB thumb drive. When I click on the properties for the parent folder, it says there are 76,364 files in 12,963 folders - which I doubt is accurate. The files are both video files and text files. The problem is, it starts copying and at a certain point, it copies the folder but not the contents in side the folder. The folders are empty. Sometimes it says the folder is corrupt and unreadable. It also happens this way on my desktop. The original files and folders are OK and not corrupted.

And, on my desktop, I try to copy my Mp3 files to my Samsung Galaxy and have problems. I am copying a main folder with several subfolders. A total of just under 10GB. The sd card in the phone is 64GB.

In both instances, if I copy 1 subfolder at a time (including subfolders under them), they seem to copy OK. The properties for the parent folder says 5909 files and 984 folders. I have a lot of music files, but really doubt it is anywhere near those numbers. I just don't have the patience, and time, to sit and copy them one by one.

Is Win7 just not capable of copying that many files at a time? Any ideas? By the way, I had the same issues on the desktop with Xp before I upgraded to Win7.

Are you positive that you have a 128GB thumb drive?
I've never seen one over 32GB

Found some stuff on the web about counterfeit Kingston thumb drives. The place I bought this from was based in China, if I remember right. When I first got it, I couldn't format it. With Win7, it would format. But it craps out when you try to copy files to it. I got pissed off enough to toss it in the garbage.
