From Sam's PM,this is an old 2004 Compaq with XP. He added two additional 512MB memory modules.
My recommendation is to remove the new memory and see how it acts. If the memory is not the same (electronically and sometimes not the same brand)there can be potentially problems. Also, considering its a 2004 many have limited memory capacity.

I would run some virus and Malware programs to make sure you don't have something unwanted lurking in your computer which could easily cause this. I also have a computer that is from 2004 and running XP. XP is no longer supported so problems can arise from just that fact.
I am having several problems now and my son, who is much smarter than I am tells me it is a combination of the age of the computer and the OS. He also thinks my motherboard is becoming toast.

I have stuff.
I try to make music with it.
Sometimes it works.
Sometimes it doesn't.
But I keep on trying.
