Urgently need a solution

Post by Steven Finley »

Just prior to Christmas I will once again head out to play with Tom Bovine. Here is the problem. The two previous times we went out,
Tom brought his favorite little calf with him; that's right, he put a hay stall in the back of his bus. Little Bessie Lou is staying at Tom's ranch
this time out but her smell remains rather pungent on the bus. Tom laughs and says it smells like a little bit of home, but myself and
the other players are hoping someone has a solution that will remedy the smell of bygone cow-pies and calf urine.
Any suggestions--other than burning out the interior of the bus?

Steven, you have my sympathies. I have been rather fond of some of my critters over the years, but that is beyond extreme.

After reading your post, and then listening to a few cuts of Tom on cdbaby.com, I'd say you're in a heap o' trouble :whoa:

I can't imagine that gig with, or without the calf

You have my complete sympathy..........

I've found the rancid fragrance in a couple of my old Rickenbacher guitar cases.......to be about all I could handle but certainly that wouldn't even be tolerable in a fancy bus.

I wish you the best..........in the miles ahead. :D

Use a professional ozone generator... I've used one for mold in guitar cases, it works... should be great on an RV/bus situation. Here's the one I bought...

http://www.amazon.com/Commercial-Purifi ... 976&sr=1-3

$200... not cheap.

It has the UV lamp for mold spores... you probably don't need that, so you can opt for the cheaper one that just does ozone... it's about $100.

I'd turn it to the 'lock' setting and let it run in the closed up vehicle for several days... then let it air out for several more. Open all cabinets, drawers etc. The ceramic plates are rated for 5000 hours' use and are replaceable. Circulating fans (to distribute the ozone) probably help... I did my guitar cases in a closet, left it on for 24hours, left the cases in there for days... the closet was in a bathroom, I left the vent fan in the bathroom on the whole time... ozone's a bear for asthmatics.

Allow time for airing out the bus, you don't want to breathe ozone, it destroys tissue, highly reactive stuff... industrial strength. Hotels use it for smoked-up (or otherwise) rooms... if you detect ozone, don't stay in the room, it must air out completely to be safe.

BTW, your boss has a favorite calf that he takes on tour? And his real name's 'Bovine'? Makes you wonder...

Maybe you would prefer to tour with a guy named "Ovine" who built a special compartment at the back of the bus where just the two of them won't be disturbed.

Maybe he should get a small pull type stock trailer to hook onto the bus.

I'd call the Union.
My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

If the union can't help, you may have to tell Mr. Bovine yourself.

I think you're selling yourself short. I'd let Mr. Bovine ride in that bus by himself and find a new steeler desperate enough to join him.

Putting up with the calf is a small price to pay for all the glory, prestige and BIG BUCKS that one is paid for those traveling gigs.

Or, was I mislead? :?

Better than Cat pee! :\ I bought a nice, used guitar case, once, that a cat had soiled. I tried everything to get rid of that smell, but nothin worked. I'd rather smell almost anything than cat pee!! You're lucky he didn't take a cat! -Jake-
