Randy, obviously some of us were operating under the mistaken assumption that you were still gainfully employed by Ms. Womack and therefore had subsequently been snubbed for the Star Spangled Banner gig. Thanks for clearing that up..

Now if we can just get Katy Perry to use a steeler for the Super Bowel.....
Or have a wardrobe malfunction... ;)

DLD, Chili farmer. Plus bananas and papaya too.

Real happiness has no strings attached.
But pedal steels have many!

Nice quote from Lee Ann...

“When I was asked, I didn’t just want to go and sing, I wanted to really invest this performance of our national anthem with something that makes us all reconsider what the song is expressing,” she says. “If you’ve ever heard… or really listened to Paul’s musicianship and the emotions he brings out… I think having him play opens up so many aspects of what Francis Scott Key was celebrating when he wrote that.”

I think Randy was very logical and sensible in his reply.

It doesn't really matter in the big picture if it is Randy or Paul, as they
are both marvelous and legendary players, and it certainly will remind millions
and millions of people just how important Pedal Steel has been to
American Music over the decades.

And as a fringe benefit it will undoubtedly make scores of others
take an interest in in Pedal Steel and who knows what some of those
fresh young minds can do for the art.

It's a Win-Win for everyone

Thanks Randy for chiming in on this topic

Moving rendition

I've seldom had the pleasure of hearing the magic of pedal steel as a lone accompaniment. Lee Ann did a great understated job. One of the best National Anthems I've witnessed.
Brought me joy. Thanks.

I had to remind my wife that Paul was the steel player we saw with Vince here a year ago and at the conclusion even she proclaimed it was one of the finest versions she has ever heard.

Wonderful job, Lee Ann and Paul! 8)

Very fine. Too bad they did not give a camera shot of Paul. Thank you Lee Ann for including the steel in your rendition. You did very well and Paul's accompaniment was historic for us steelers.

Perhaps someone thought to record it.
The only thing better than doing what you love is having someone that loves you enough to let you do it.

I agree, great job by both!! I suspect this is the first time in history that the song has been done with just steel & vocals in front of a national audience!

Thanks to Lee Ann & Paul for making it happen!

Paul played nice full chords behind Lee Ann. I have never heard the National Anthem done so well at any sporting event. The vocals were perfect and the steel guitar was out front in the mix and sounded great. I hope someone recorded it. I would love for it to be on You Tube. It needs to be.

Go back and re-read this post. Randy said he hasn't been with her for a couple of years.
