Searching for BIAB files internally on the Windows 7 compute
Dear Whiz:
Have not communicated with your for a long time. Nice to see your name in the midst!!!
I frequently use the "Search Programs & Files" function on my new Windows 7.
Having a very large number of backing tracks in BIAB, I would like BIAB to be included in that search function. However, nothing in BIAB will come up. Do, I have to enter all the file tpes, i.e. MGU etc somewhere?

Hi Doug and thanks for the response. What may be a part of the problem is many of the several thousand BB files I have to list the suffix after the name in the song lists. But I tried with some songs that do have the file extension listed, and they didn't come up.
Maybe PG has the answer. I'll send an email to them.

Thanks Doug. Well, I tried that. First by typing in MGU and the song title. But they were not in nice rectangle file like you see. When I typed in just MGU and show more results, I got 37, 774. Those are just MGU's. And they're still not in a nice rectangle as you show, and not in any order. Maybe I have too many files!!. I've been known to be a bit OC (obsessive compulsive)!!!!!!

I guess the first obvious question... is the BIAB program installed on the computer you're using? And there is something in the BIAB settings about "associate file types", which might have something to do with the way your BIAB files (songs) are displayed on your computer. I'm not sure though, others here may know more about this.

Hi Doug and yes, you're right about associated files. I remember back in 2002 when I first got BIAB and couldn't get some files to play, Jim Baron told me not to bury the BB files down in the computer, keep them up on the C drive. I've sent an email to PG music, so I imagine they will get back to me after the weekend.
I'll let you know what PG says. Thanks for your comments.

My computer geek solved the problem of searching through thousands of my BIAB and other music files on Windows 7.
He typed in all the BIAB, Midi, Kar etc extensions, and commanded the computer to search all files and index them. A couple of hours later the computer completed the task of going through 486,820 files. These were the total files on the compter, not all BIAB of course, but I do have thousands. Now, for example I can just type in HARBOUR LIGHTS, and all versions, BIAB, Midi, kar etc into the Windows 7 search option and voila, they all appear.
Just thought I'd share that with you.

Much better than Windows Search
http://www.indexyourfiles.com/
This is what I use, and I have over 50,000 files indexed. Results are instant, and the first indexing process itself take just a few minutes. Updates take even less.
