Internet phone question

Post by Bob Hickish »

Internet phone question

on two different occasions - phone communications were interrupted with loud audio , (seem like, some kind of TV program) theses calls were , #1 -- to the Hawaiian islands - & - #2 a call from the islands -- both times the party calling could only here the loud audio and nothing else - both calls had to be reestablished to complete -

this interruption happened after communications were well under way - or late in the call

as we all know dropped calls and what ever goes wrong with the systems is all to common , but this is a new one

any one have this happen ? or know what happened ?

What kind of "internet" call was this? Skype?

These are routed over various links and servers, any point is a potential for problems, just as it is for Internet "data" links. e.g. buffering or breakup of video on a Youtube, for example. You don't notice it as much on a straight data transmission as it doesn't display garbled data, you just get a retransmission (which may show up as a delay in response).

Jack
One end was magic-jack - and the other ( I think ) is a bundle program - not sure if it Dish or a cable service -- to answer you question - just a phone call - not SKYPE-

Hard to tell where or what, but with Magic Jack, I would suspect their facilities is where the problem was.

I would agree with that - it just seem strange that this accrued , both directions - that don't let MJ off the hook for the problem - I’m sure - ----- it was a dropped call that was different than
any ever experienced - the audio over tone was very loud and the call dropped but the audio continued .

If one end involved a satellite internet connection, I can report that I was forced to abandon the new Ooma internet phone I bought using Dish internet. It's just not fast enough, and the audio gaps and drop-outs made communication impossible.

I never experienced any loud extraneous audio such as you describe, but I only tried using it a few times before giving up.
