I was able to finish my first build last week , and I'm pretty pleased with the outcome. Still learning build techniques , and fine tuning some steps, but here it is , warts and all.

Nice build, better move that thing off the woodpile before it's time to stoke the fire! ;)

It sounds great , I can't play it, but a Dobro playing friend put it thru its' paces, and the Alumitone is awesome ! I'll try to figure out how to post a brief clip. Here are a few more pics....

Here's a little clip. This is Merle , mainly a Dobro player ( G ) giving my steel a test drive. He's familiar with C6 , but not fluent !

It sounds great. Thanks for posting the video. I like how you stepped the back of the neck down -- you probably saved quite a bit of weight without affecting the stability.

Great design and sound. I think you made a good choice with going for 8 strings. I really like your fretboard design too. Wow!

Thanks for all the nice comments. The credit for the beautiful fretboard goes to George , at Georgeboards . He was also my supplier for the nut and bridge, as well as the Alumitone pickup. Most of the other hardware is from Stew Mac. I highly recommend them both, especially GEORGEBOARDS !!

Thanks Tom , Your imput means a great deal to me, I aspire ( perspire ?) to build them as good looking as yours. And you are correct sir , I can't stop at one. I have a nice slab of Walnut coming around the first that will be enough for the next three.

If that's your first-built instrument it's exceptionally good. 8)

Hi Alan , many thanks for the compliment , the first one turned into a sacrificial experiment (as in how to mess one up) , but it may live again. This is the first that went according to plan (mostly) Are you in England ?? If so, I spent a few years at Sculthorpe RAF ..Blakney and Burnham Market area.

No, Birmingham, England, is my home town, but I left there 34 years ago and moved to San Francisco with my Nebraskan wife, and I now have two grown-up daughters who were born over here. I do go back to visit about once every year, but it's changed so much since I was a youngster that I don't think I would want to live there any more. If I ever do move back, it will be to the Portmadoc area of Wales, where I can be by the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways. ;-)
