End of Life for MS Office 2003, along with Windows XP

Post by Jack Stoner »

As Microsoft support ends this month for Windows XP, it will also end for Office 2003/FrontPage 2003. Office 2003 includes MS Word 2003, Excel, etc.

Here is an article on Office 2003 end and the potential security concerns.

Re: the free versions of Office.
These days I would consider Polaris Office a better option than Open office which can load out of date Java versions (this is covered by Wiz in other posts).
Polaris' Android version, especially for mobile/cell phones is also a good option if you need one for that.
The latest MS Office is just bloody terrible !!!!!! I have to use it at work - options are harder than ever to find and the bland interface is soooo bad!

Are you sure 2003 won't run on windows 7?

James

At no stage has it been suggested that 2003 won't run on 7.
The only issue is that MS is no longer supporting any updates etc, to this software so there could/will be security (and other possible) issues arise that will no longer be addressed with updates and patches.

I run Open Office and Google docs with great results. Open Office gets better every year and it no longer screws up the formats on my Excel charts. I've had no major issues porting stuff between MS, Open and Google. On 4 of my computers I don't even have MS loaded.

Along with Office 2003 Professional that I'm finally going to give up, I have Libre Office. I like it better than Open Office.

My biggest concern with Office 2003 is Outlook 2003 which I hate to give up. I tried Thunderbird and don't like that and I don't like Windows Live Mail but it is better than Thunderbird.
