Land line security vs cell phone security

Post by Harold Dye »

I am on dial up and I am considering sending it by way of the goose. How is the security of using a cell phone for transmitting personal info such as SS numbers, credit card numbers etc? I keep my land line for this reason. Is it any safer than a cell phone for this purpose? I don't transmit any info on the internet so a wireless connection would be not of concern should I drop the land line and dial up. My cell is one in which I purchase a card each month and never use the all the minutes. I do transmit certain info by land line and I have always thought this was safer. Any input would be appreciated.

As long as the phone doesn't get hacked by mobile malware, it is as safe as using a computer that has not been hacked.

No matter what type of device you use to transmit and receive data, an anti "virus" app is a must have. For phones, it requires a smart phone that uses apps. If your phone is not that type, it probably won't be installing disguised Trojans that are info-stealers.

Any transmission over airwaves is available to the public. If someone has an all channel scanner they can pick up your telephone conversations.

I dropped my landline in 2002 when MCI (remember them?) said it would take them three months to transfer my phone to my new address! :whoa: I haven't regretted it one bit. :)
