Anyone have any feedback about these Amps.

The Steelaire is a very welcome addition to the current offerings in steel guitar amplifiers. Lots of headroom and well designed lightweight amp by a steel guitar player who also happens to be an amp wiz. The guitar series (Micro Pro and Aviator series) are amazing 200w lightweight amps w tremendous tonal variations.

At the rehearsal for the Men of Steel Show last August, Pat Quilter brought a couple of prototypes of the SteelAire and we were all mighty impressed.

Some of us were able to take an amp home and kick the tires. We were even more impressed.

We did give Pat a lot of feedback and suggestions, I think much of that was incorporated into the final version.

Do check this great new amp out. Palenscar says it'll also be available as a 2U rack unit (power and preamp), that's great news for those of us using racks and cabs.

Here are all three versions clockwise from left: Pro, Combo, and Rack. Regarding the one on the upper left (Steelaire Pro), you can actually slide the rack out and use it for different applications. From the website below:

The Steelaire Pro cabinet is a system that combines two products in one. The Steelaire Rackmount head slides into a deeper, taller cabinet with vintage styling that stands proudly on any stage. For studio use, the rack mountable head can easily be removed with a single thumbscrew, allowing the player to put the cabinet in an isolation booth while keeping the head close by for ease of adjustment.

Anybody know which Quilter amps Albert Lee and David Hidalgo are using. MicroPro or Aviator?

From an article shared on the Quilter website, about Hidalgo (Deke Dickerson is using them as well).

This year, the company released its more conventional-looking Aviator line and is getting a lot more notice. It isn't just aging journalists singing the amps' praises now.
To me, Los Lobos are the Beatles that never broke up. They just keep on growing, changing, challenging and becoming ever-more soulful. Singer/composer David Hidalgo is my kind of guitar god, always emotional, inventive and articulate. I've seen him play through nearly every sort of tube amp over the years, but now he's working out with a variety of Quilters.
A musician friend had told him about the amps, "so I looked the company up and found they're only half an hour from my home. I've been using their amps ever since," Hidalgo says by phone.
"I like the portability"—for fly-to gigs, he just stows an 8-pound Micropro head in his carry-on—"the reliability and mainly the tone. Right out of the gate, it sounds great, with all the sound of a tube amp. It has enough power for whatever you need. Also, when we played the Greek, they have a 95-decibel sound limit. With most amps, it's really hard to get a tone at low volume, but the Quilter worked perfect there."

Mr. Lee just says it's 200 watts into a single 10" or 8". Jim P. can probably tell us which model that is.

Hi guys, Chris from Quilter Labs here...
David Hidalgo plays...
Aviator Open Twelve with Aviator Extension for most small to mid houses
MicroPro Head with rented backline 4x12 cab with Los Lobos (He packs it in his backpack to take it all over the world.
...and for recording he got hold of one of the prototype Steelaire amplifiers which he also occasionally takes out.

Albert Lee has one of the prototype MicroPro 200 8 inch models. He truly does love it. Every time we see him he profusely thanks Pat for it. What a great fellow.

Chris, do the smaller combos have similar features and tonal characteristics as the Steelaire?

For the most part no.
The Steelaire has a broader range of controls aimed at the Steel guitar. The MicroPro is aimed more at the traditional guitarist and voiced accordingly.
(Although I have heard some fantastic steel through a MicroPro 8.)
The lightweight however cannot be beat.

You will not be dissapointed by the SteelAire 15 " speaker. I
think that an 8 inch speaker just would not have that
bottom end that steel players like. For Pedal Steel, get the
SteelAire.
