Advertising

Post by Ken Lang »

It seems like there is more and more advertising on TV and on the Internet. Go to a news clip or an MP3 somewhere and the first thing you have to do is listen to an ad. It gets real tiring to surf any.

Television seems the same way. More and longer breaks
for ads. And all of them don't seem to obey the law about volume either.

I realize people have to advertise, but it's getting crazy. I think it won't be long before I will stop looking.

A local AM radio program is pretty interesting, but it's become so infused with advertising that I tune out often. It just gets too much to bear.

I agree with you - there comes a time when the unwanted content gets to be too much.

The problem is, free sites like YouTube have to open their services to advertising to generate income. Otherwise, you would be paying for a subscription to use their services. I hate it too, but it is reality these days, and we can't do much about it.

In the media, that's true, although for TV ads, the remote "Mute" button is somewhat effective. I use it often. On radio, when the ratio approaches nearly as much time airing ads as there is for content, that's reaching my pain threshold.

On the web, it's somewhat better. Using Firefox, add-ons like "Flashblock" and Adblock are quite helpful toward "sanitizing" content. It's a jungle out there.

True. Switching to other channels is an option. My luck though, the stations I switch to also are playing a commercial.
