The bass is a circa '60's Ampeg - AUB-1 maybe? Now, who's the bass player?

If memory serves me correctly, it's Noel Stanley. Very good player and all-around nice gentleman.

at 1:07 he even says "ahh, Buddy now", so I'd guess you are right.

Willis,
The right-hand stance
is a 'dead give-a-way' . . .
Also, Steve Chapman, who
ET refers to as 'Blondie' in
this video, didn't come onto
the band until 1966, about
four years after Emmons
had left the band.

so Andy . . . How can someone referring to the steel player as "Buddy"
indicate whether it is Buddy Emmons or Buddy Charleton? :?
Those are the two steelplayers
in discussion' here.

Definitely Buddy Charleton! Note that the beautiful "full-fat" tone that Charleton is known for (and usually has) just isn't there. :? Instead, the sound in the clip is more akin to the Emmons-Myrick-Garrish tone. It's a pleasing, clear, but thin sound, and it just doesn't suit Charleton, IMHO.

It's kinda like hearing Leon Rhodes or Jimmy Capps playing on a Strat. :(

Also a dead giveaway: If you notice in the video, Buddy Charleton tucks the pinky on his right hand under, Buddy Emmons plays with his extended.

The thing that jumps out at me is the simple fact that Waltz Across Texas was released several years after Buddy Emmons left the band. Judging by the personnel in this video, I would guess this was shot in the very late 60s or early 70. Billy Byrd rejoined the Troubadours after Steve left and Jack Mollette was on board by 1971. There was another guitarist in between Steve and Jack, but I can't recall his name. At any rate, It's a great song played by a great band.

How do you follow that act?

Because I know only a little concerning the past players that all of you know about and I didn't think about it before posting that it could be another player named Buddy. I was more commenting on what ET said but I suppose they OP heard that as well.

Cheers,
Andy

Willis it is Buddy Charleton. The other proof is that Jack Drake played bass when Buddy Emmons was in the band.

Willis, I see your point, definitely a different right hand position than in the first video.... When I first began taking C6 lessons from Buddy, because I play with my fingers tucked under did notice that he was using a similar position to mine while demonstrating licks. Guess when you are that talented, really does not matter how you hold your fingers!

It's Buddy Charleton because I bought that jacket from him! He sold me some of his stage wear when I was outfitting one of my old bands "Mental Revenge" with cool outfits. We weren't matching, but we were pretty sharp by San Francisco standards. When I wore that jacket I played just like Buddy...(I wish)!

What kind of temperament did Ernest use when he sang? It's strange how he almost sounds out of tune, like it's a different scale, but it still works. I don't understand it. It sounds very deliberate to me.
