Anyone watch the Grammys last night?

Post by Joe Casey »

I DVR'd the show just to watch the Hag-Willie and Chris the other guy I knew was just kissin ass to make up for something he said months ago. When I viewed it this morning I felt bad for the Hag it was an out and out embarrassing trainwreck. They must have just thrown it together and one could see how uncomfortable they were. Very insulting to a legend in my book. The Crowd looked like they were digging it but what a showcase for legends on a world wide broadcast. Hag deserved more respect than to be put on with this line-up. Oh I'm a Willie fan and Willie can fit anywhere but even he was lost and Chris well he should have been in the audience. I have too much respect for Hag to see him treated like this. Just my opinion. :(

I assume you mean Grammy Awards, not Emmy Awards.

But are you surprised? I routinely ignore awards shows, they're not made for people like me. In fact, I routinely ignore modern television, period. No point in getting riled up - it sucks, and there's nothing we can do about it. I prefer to focus on areas where I can make a difference.

I guess if there was anything good it was seeing merles son Ben playing guitar he has the Nichols stuff down plus. The Steeler was pretty good. I agree with above watching the little bit I did and seeing the boobs flaunted and the music?? (can't call it that anymore) Someone called it right a while back saying theu mixed Country with rap. yep and its called "CRap" now. I just wanted to see the Hag again,I never miss a chance to watch him when I can. Sad to say I'm sorry I witnessed what I did. He's still is and always will be my hero though.

Yeah, it was a bit of a trainwreck,
What got me, were all the shots of the young "musicians" in the audience snickering and laughing at them. Ringo was the only one who seemed to appreciate the performance with respect.
My only reason for watching last night was for the "Highwaymen Redux" and Paul & Ringo together again.
That said, the only standout performance (for me) was the Stevie Wonder & Nile Rogers bit.

It was kind of sad to watch, especially Haggard, who is just a shadow of his former self. Same thing with Willie. And Kristofferson, he never had a good voice, even in his younger daze. He was wandering all around the mic, his voice fading in and out. All in all it was an embarrassing display. I noticed that a lot of audience members were singing along and they knew the words, so that was pretty cool. But I got the impression that most of them were laughing at the performance... like watching a comedy sketch of a bad country act. Like a parody or a Saturday Night Live skit. I think Ringo Starr still sounds good at age 73, and McCartney at age 71. I've never been a Metallica fan, but they kicked a$$ last night.

Kudos to the band! They covered well when Kristofferson broke time :!:, and then Ben Haggard and Greg Leisz showed us what backup licks are SUPPOSED to sound like on "Okie From Muskogee." Yes, the vocals were horrible, and the whole thing looked to be thrown together at the last minute. ("Whose turn is it to sing? Guess I'll give it a stab!")

Who was playing the push-pull with Miranda Lambert? It was a good night for black Emmons D-10s, I counted two!

Yeah, I noticed that. There was some confusion about who was going to sing what verse when. Sometimes two singers jumped in and then backed off and sometimes no one jumped in! Sorry to say, but they looked like a bunch of confused nursing home patients trying to get their bearings. Sounded that way too. :(

Grammy's

I thought the player with Kacey Musgrave sounded good........... and there was some great twin stuff during the Hag segment. I would rather see some live music with rough spots than lip synched any day. The price of P/P's just went up ............lol

Doug that's a great analogy I was probably searching for those exact words. :)I'd be interested in hearing what hag thought of the whole debacle.

It's been a long time since I watched an entire Grammy show. For some reason I did last night and for the most part I enjoyed it. One thing I like is that it covers many different genres and having all those varied artists together on one stage is refreshing to me. I liked Kacey Musgraves and it was nice to hear a current country song that wasn't a wall of compressed sound.
A few of my favorite moments: Peter Frampton playing acoustic guitar with Ringo, way cool. Paul and Ringo together, Keith Urban with Gary Clark, Jr., Billy Joe Armstrong and Miranda Lambert and their Phil Everly tribute ,Metalica, Pharell Williams with Stevie Wonder.
I agree that Willie, Kris and Merle were not at their best, but Greg Liesz on steel Benny Haggard on guitar and Leland Sklar on bass, pretty cool. I wasn't able to identify the rest of the band. Somebody have that info?

Oh geez, there's a Grammy performance with steel guitar up in the mix and a camera on him, and you guys are still complaining? What's up with that? :?

I watched a few clips from the Grammy show. Can't bear to sit through the live broadcast.

I was disappointed that Nora Jones wasn't there to sing with Billy Joe Armstrong. Other than that...

I loved the Highwaymen segment, with Greg's steel prominent in the mix and the 4 singers each with their own approach to the songs, and the all-star backup band. You don't see that every day.

I'm not a Taylor Swift fan, but I gotta confess that I was impressed with her performance. She really nailed it. It's a shame she's so damn ugly - maybe some makeup would help.

The Nile Rogers/Stevie Wonder dance tune was great, especially where they turned the beat around for 16 bars and then put it back. Those guys are hot! Ringo and Paul seemed to be really digging it in the audience, too. Remember when Paul and Stevie W recorded together? It could happen again. :D

b0b, I was saying a similar thing to my wife about Kacey Musgraves. She's good but if she was pretty she might go somewhere.:)
I was missing Norah Jones with Billy Joe too but I thought Miranda did a fine job.
Taylor Swift's hair flopping seemed contrived and just odd, but I thought she sang in tune for once.

How about Ozzy Osbourne (Black Sabbath) introducing Ringo and drawing a blank on the name of the group he'd been in (The Beatles) that inspired him so much as a lad.
Classic Grammy moment!

I liked the Kasey Musgroves song. I listened to some of her other songs and they all had steel in them. Her band has a southwestern feel about it.
