Question About Paul Franklin

Post by Harold Bullard »

In a lot of videos of Paul Franklin, I notice that quite often he reaches around the right end of the guitar where the tuning pegs are and appears to do "something". Does anyone what he's doing when he does this? He does it quite often.

(If he pushing a hot lick button, I want one)

Well I know one thing for sure is that is where his neck selector switch is. I think there is another switch but I'm not sure what it does. I'm sure someone knows.

I've never noticed it. Can you post a link? The only other thing I can think of, if he has his neck selector switch on the end plate, and this is the 2 pickup guitar, is maybe a pickup selector switch. If it's o a single pickup guitar, thing who knows.

I think he has a double set of right levers and the one or ones that are not used are folded away. Maybe that is it ?

Your right Olli, he's probably switching levers. I forgot about that.

Don't know but I think it has something to do with tuning the 10th string, B note, to a certain spot for a raise or lower??

A neck selector switch is what I first thought, but when I see him do it he continues playing on the same neck.

I've noticed him doing that when I've seen him play live. It looked like he was checking the cable was in the jack all the way, although how it would get worked loose I don't know.

May just be a habit. I've seen guitar players that reach up and touch their tuners anytime there's a break in the music. They don't actually turn them they just touch each one. Kind of like a nervous tick I guess.

Maybe a switch that will boost his volume for solos ? I've also wonder too about it just being a habit. We all have them of some kind.

I have seen Paul do that to where it just looked like a force of habit. I've seen players stretch their hands or wiggle their fingers and whatever else. I think it's just nervous tic of somekind.

I agree with Dean. I watched a you tube were you can see the end plate and there's no switch there.

I knew there were switches. Other than the neck selector switch, I'm just not sure what the other does.

Since that is a single pickup on that guitar, unless he has some magical circuitry under there (which he might), My next question would be if he had muti-tap pickups on that guitar.

whew! I'm glad you saw the switches. I was beginning to think maybe he uses the same trick I do when I hit a bad note, reach around and act like I'm tuning that string.
On a really really bad note I'll reach under and pull on a lever like it's stuck.
I thought I would add this reply to the topic as something that might come in handy for the newbie.

Tony they dont all have two switches, mine has only one but my son has two Franklins and one has two and the other only one, so youre not real blind, or all wrong.

I would guess that the E9 neck has a tapped pickup, and he is checking to see it's set to the sound he wants.
