For the curious that did'nt get to make it to St. Louis, what new toy(s) did you find you just could'nt pass by??.List anything you want that you purchased at the convention..Thanks Ron

Not sure this list will make anyone drool, since my pedal steel career had spanned exactly three days prior to the convention, and I'm merely stocking up on basic accessories. But the timing was great, as it allowed me to familiarize myself with a lot of pedal steel merchandise in person. I ended up purchasing the following items that I deemed necessary and/or helpful as I embark on the learning process:

- Peterson VS-II Virtual Strobe Tuner
- 7/8" 10-string BJS bar
- Jeff Newman's "Steel Guitar 101" convention bundle (the Pedal Steel Techniques video + the Right Hand Alpha video)
- two sets of Lloyd Green signature Jagwire strings and a dozen .0115s
- a variety of thumbpicks and fingerpicks to try out
- Lloyd Green's "Revisited" disc (from the man himself... what a pleasure), as well as his "Reflections" disc (from Scotty's booth)

I also considered a Nashville 112, but that's going to have to wait a while...

I haven't done it yet, but I forsee a Nashville 112 in my future. I'm really impressed with the sound and the compactness.

I'm a great Peavey fan anyway, I already have 10 Peavey amps, and and 24 Peavey guitars. Twelve of those are the old T-60 guitars, I think I have at lease one of every color that came from the factory.

BTW, I collect a lot better than I play.

I got a 15/16" BJS bar. That's all.

I was planning to maybe get a new guitar, but I didn't see anything that I liked better than my Sierra Session. There were a lot of nice instruments on display, though.

I liked the Peavey Nashville 112 amp, but not enough to replace my Mesa/Boogies. Evans was out of my price range (I'd want two!).

So, I got a 15/16" BJS bar. That's all.

I got me the Neil Flanz C6 chord dictionary. My girlfriend got the new BJS short bar. It's 7/8" like usual but short for lap steel. He said Lloyd is using one on PSG but I cant verify that. She loves it on the 10 string PSG. I could almost use it too but my hands are a little too big. It makes slanting easier because the thumb has an easier time grabbing the butt end.

No major purchases, just 4 CD's, stocked up on George L thumbpicks (ah! comfortable), cords and plugs, then to the Emmons booth for small parts and a snazzy ball cap.

I got a Peterson VS-II Tuner,a nice used Nanoverb,about $100 worth of GeorgeL cables for me and my band members,about $150 worth of various CDs including the new ones by Randy Beavers and Lloyd Green,a Fishman pickup for my dobro(on Mike Auldridge's recomendation),a new leg bag for my Excel and some Zookie thumbpicks. And last but certainly not least,an autographed picture of Sara Jory along with a chat,a hug and a chance to sniff her....perfume.I was all ready to be smitten by the new 112 Peavey and it WAS fine sounding - but not THAT much smaller and lighter than my(much louder and also fine sounding)Nash 400 to be worth me spending money on. Now from the looks of things,the Peterson tuner is gonna make my life a whole lot easier and it's probably the best steel accessory I've bought in a long time. -MJ-

I also got a Peterson tuner. My old peterson is still working but I really liked the presets. I got the Buddy Emmons (black) cd, a bar & wrench holder and some assorted pics.
The best thing I bought though was the Newman seminar. $60.00 is very little to spend for a years worth of entertainment & frustration until next September. A lot of work ahead for this old bass player.
I also got to meet the founder of my 2nd home b0b. Thanks again for this great forum.

I got a real nice seat from Steeler's Choice, a lot of CDs and misc. goodies I've been needing, and a great indepth interview with Mike Auldridge (for an upcoming issue of Pedal Steel.US). What a gentleman! And certainly not least, lots of faces to put with the names I keep seeing here, some great conversation and a truly mind melting blend of the best steel music ever. Big thanks to everybody for that!
