Just a few more details..

Post by Bob Gibler »

Today I finished sanding, polishing and oiling the Rosewood fretboard blanks and place fitting them onto the console. I believe the rebuild will be finished this weekend should all go well.

I am very satisfied with the results thus far. Now on to getting the delicate electronics placed in their respective positions and do a minimal amount of soldering. Then My Brother can string her up and tune the necks to play. Next post should be the finished Wright Console ready to play.

I know that this project has taken a bit of time to complete, But now we have it documented, And I feel like I have honored My Father and Chuck Wright the original Builder by not letting this fine instrument go to waste. :) :) :) :) :) :)

Wright Update.

Post by Bob Gibler »

Folks, I have been waiting on my Brother to get the 40 strings on the Wright tuned up. It has been a while I know. We will get the 4 tunings done this weekend so no more waiting. Next I will need to restore the Standel Amp that Dad owned that has been sitting in a closet for over 35 years

I thought some of you might enjoy a small showing of the archives I found while cleaning out both of Mom and Dads houses. First I found some of Chuck Wright's commercial documents on His Steels in the Sierra line. also the Holy Grail of Volume Pedals for my Dads Steel had Finally Arrived, thanks to a very fine Gentleman on this Forum by the name of Todd Clinesmith.

He was very generous in selling me one of His Wright Volume tone Pedals. I know and appreciate just how hard and elusive these pedals are to get, and how hard it was for him to part with it. CUDO'S Todd. And to complete the components for this Wright, I have a very nice case coming from a gentleman named Kevin Hattan, of Hattan Cases. So I am just about finished completing this project.

I know you folks are ready to see the completion of this thread, so I can tell you it is almost here. I have had fun doing this project and have been very fortunate in receiving all of the great advice from the members of this Forum on this project, You folks are a great resource on Steel Guitars, tunings, and components just to highlight a few things.

OK The wiring is done and the only thing left is the tuning and stretching of the strings, Mostly Bronze wound in the large gauge strings, and steel in the lower gauges. The reason for the Bronze is that Dad had it this way for the Baritone sound that he really enjoyed, and it sounded rich indeed. I will need to build a steel for myself to play next. (PIC's)

Quad Wright Completed

Post by Bob Gibler »

I am very happy to say that My Father's Quad Wright Console is Now Completed. Thanks to all of you who helped in the process with your Much needed Advice and prompting.

This Project has been very gratifying for myself and my Brother Jeff who helped me to get the electronics working perfectly, and after I put the strings on each neck, He Helped me by selecting all of the tunings, stretching the strings, and tuning each neck to perfection.

I also have a new Friend on the Forum who has a vested interest in this Project.
So I am planning to meet up with him in person on a long weekend very soon , so he can examine the steel, get his hands on it and play it for as long as he durned well pleases, or Monday morning shows up.......And I have to get off to work again,(GRIN).

I think it would be a fitting way to close this thread.

The Completed Wright Pic's with my Brother Jeff.

Quad Wright Console Sound bites

Post by Bob Gibler »

Ok folks. You asked for the Original sound bites from Dad's radio show on the Quad Wright. These files are taken from a Scotch reel to reel tape burned to a CD so it will not be lost to time. I thank My Brother Jeff and his engineering skills in saving the sound files to disc as the celluloid Scotch tape DISINTEGRATED as it passed through the recorders capstain. WHEW!
And I want to thank a Fellow forum Member Scott Duckworth and My son Kameron on their technical genius on helping me to post these sound files for your pleasure. Thank you Scott and Kameron

Soon I will be glad to post recent files on the Wrights new sound. It sounds as great today as it did in the 1960s
Enjoy................

Great music! Especially liked "Jersey Bounce." :)
My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?
