do balding steel players play better?
back in the seventies we had jerry garcia and buddy cage and the longhair who played for gatemouth brown and herb s. with an afro, etc. really sexy swishing it all around for the girls. really high sexual tension and hot licks. now, 44years later, we have alot of older more mature players who, you would think, would have gotten way past this shallow form of ego based posing and have progressed into the more pure form of talented expression of music, unaffected by self-centered concerns.
what do you think?

Of course bad guys play better. It's obvious.

But, some in the audience might not be able to tell. When they get blinded by the stage lights reflecting off the players head, it distracts them enough that they can no longer hear the music.

At 66 (almost), I still have *relatively* thick curly hair (salt-pepper). And I'm still a chick magnet... except now I'm reverse polarity.
Afro?!?

That's the late and great Monte Paul on drums behind me, at the Holiday II in El Monte, CA. With Jimmy Lawton and the Lawmen, 1971. Jimmy and I still stay in touch, though he now lives in Europa.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

My Dad had a friend that everybody called Shorty. I grew up knowing the guy. I was about 30 and he was about 80 or more. One day he had a guy ask him why people call him shorty (he was less than 5' tall)- he took his ball cap off and I saw he had no hair under that "John Deer" hat - he just smiled and said that actually he had grown way up through his HAIR.

Are you implying the the more bald one gets the better the playing gets - if so, I'll shave my head ... please!!chris ivey wrote:back in the seventies we had jerry garcia and buddy cage and the longhair who played for gatemouth brown and herb s. with an afro, etc. really sexy swishing it all around for the girls. really high sexual tension and hot licks. now, 44years later, we have alot of older more mature players who, you would think, would have gotten way past this shallow form of ego based posing and have progressed into the more pure form of talented expression of music, unaffected by self-centered concerns.
