LAN Set Up?

Post by J W Alexander »

Okay----so have no less than 3 'puters now two of which are running XP-Pro and that'll never change--eventually they'll not be online ever again.) Third one is with Win7 (sucks :aside:) that will be the main one for online activities what gear and processes do I need to set up a small LAN here in the home?

Thanks!

Get a wireless router with 4 ports on the back. Hard wire the computers close enough to the router. Use the wireless card in your laptops to connect wirelessly.

Secure the router with a strong admin password. Turn off UPnP. Disable Remote Administration. After establishing wireless connectivity, disable WIP.

Simple, huh?

Yes that is easy---thanks! :)

Is there any way to do that and avoid the wireless thing? My four port ADSL cannot use the wireless function as its antenna have been removed.

Yup. Run cables from each computer to your router.
