Gene Watson road steeler
Does anyone know if Gene Watson has a steeler on the road? He is appearing in my general area in about a month. I'll drive the 110 miles each way if he has one. I won't if he doesn't.

One of the guys showed Gene this thread. He had a good laugh. After Sat show, he thanked me for letting "your singer" get on stage and do some songs. I told him in all reality, the singer's main job is to fill in the gaps between the steel rides..... We had a good laugh for a few days on this subject.
. Course, the guys won't let up....
What a great gig I am blessed to have. I never forget that..

Since I started this thread I feel oblidged to say all of the words.
Back in 1957 when Jim Reeves hit with 'Four Walls', Ferlin Huskey hit with 'Gone', Marty Robbins hit with 'A White Sport Coat.....all without fiddle and steel......I resolved to NOT buy any of it (even if I liked it) because to do so was to help contribute to the ABSENCE of fiddle and steel on country records. I never bought one.....never. Fast forward to today, if a country singer (even if I like him) chooses to NOT have a steel player......I will not go and contribute to the demise of country music as I know and love it. I have been a fan of Gene Watson for a long time and have several of his CD's...... my favorite being his Step One CD with a fellow named Emmons on steel.
I wish to show no disrespect to him nor any other country singer.......but if both fiddle and steel are missing............it is NOT country as I want it. I will NOT contribute to it.
Danny.....I promise to come up and say hello. Thanks for responding to this thread. I hope that Gene understands.....in my opinion, he is a singer's singer.

This forum never ceases to blow my mind! I am honored every day just to log on here and to read and absorb info/stories etc. My hope & dream is to some day be able to call myself a steel player even if I were ranked dead last on the list I'd be thrilled!
Been at this damn thing for a few years now. Not so sure that I'm getting anywhere but it is fun. Sometimes.

With a big fast forward..........tonight we went to see Danny Naccarato and 'his singer' Gene Watson in Port Charlotte, FL. The show was wonderful and I got to say hello to Danny as I had promised him back in February that I would. We did NOT make the 110 mile trip last February since we did not get tickets ahead of time and found out just before the show that it was sold out............so we were hiding in the bushes waiting for them to get close again and tonight was the night.
If they ever get within 110 miles of where you are, make sure that you make the journey. It is well worth it.
To Danny: It was nice to meet you. Enjoy that Black Mullen G2 Universal. You make it sound so good....Del would be proud. Hope to see and hear you again very soon.
With best regards,
Ben & Carol Rubright
ps: Danny...tell Gene that he did pretty good too even though Moe Bandy wasn't there!!!
