What is this Notation??

Post by Sonny Jenkins »

I'm trying to work on Hiway 40 Blues,,,the track I have seems like a very good one,,,except it seems like the 1st bar is off someway. The song is in E. The first bar has E...d then of course the 2nd bar picks up the F#. Seems like I'm getting 1 too many beats in the 1st bar?????

E...d means that the E chord plays on the 1st beat only of that bar, and it rings for the rest of that bar (whole note). The small "d" means that only the drums will continue to play throughout that bar. If you want to get rid of that and have the track play normally in bar 1, delete the E...d and just type in E

Hey thanks Doug! It just seems like there is 1 too many beats,,,actually have to start AFTER the E chord sounds,,,which doesn't seem right,,,thought maybe the 3 dots were putting in too many beats. Maybe I need to make that E downbeat hit on the 2nd beat??? Would that be like .E..d ????

Right click on that bar and then choose "Bar Settings". Find "# beats this bar" and type in 4, and click on OK

I think I have determined that it is NOT too many beats,,,it's the E chord should sound on the 2nd beat instead of the 1st???

When I click on that bar to change it to what I think it should be,,,it won't allow me to make the change,,,I change it,,,and it reverts back to what it was???

In the first box, type in E.,E

The E. will silence the first beat, the comma separates the beats and the E sounds on beat 2. Should work.
