I am sooo tired of all these drinking songs. It was refreshing when Willie sang "Roll me up and smoke me when I die".

For the most part new country is more about drinking & having a party, than drinking & leaving cheating songs. Willie still sings great, just needs to tune his guitar.
I thought Toby & Bell did a good job hosting. I saw and heard some steel guitar last night, too!
Randle Curry got hand and fret board airtime! Toby's steel player got airtime!
I didn't care for Miranda's group. The lyric and singing was sharp & making fun of T.Country. JMHO
Of course, these award shows always leaves us wanting more steel guitar!

Typically these shows bring a ton of response to the forum in regards to the new country vs. old country. Nashville gone Hollywood, rock, not country...........which is the the position I take. But the biggest question in my mind is......Where in the !@#$% do all these people park? There looked to be about 8 billion people downtown and Fanfairs going on. You can barely find a place to park on a Wednesday night in February!

I didn't know until I started making hotel reservations that this week was Fanfair . I am coming to town next week. Hope to find some good music. Most of my favorite pickers won't be in town. Bummer!

Sure beats hell out of the pickup truck songs, though!daynawills wrote:I am sooo tired of all these drinking songs.
What ever happened to songs about emotions?
I'd really like to hear Willie sing one of his early songs: "I Just Thought I'd Drop By". I think it was one of the best things he ever wrote.
Never happen though.

Just my opinion,The drinking and cheatin songs[which some seem to not like]MADE COUNTRY MUSIC. Early country music was done by REAL people for REAL people. What is real about I love my truck or Bo-donk-a -donk.[whatever the hell that is]Today it's ALL about the money,to hell with the music,Today the MORE braindead it is the more it sells.A sad state of affairs. YOU BETCHA,DYK?BC.

hey I'd like to have my old Mustang back..It's probably a Wash machine from Japan or in some dump now..I'd like to think we hung around long enough until Country music could get by without us..
.20 years from now It won't matter to me but the now generation of Stars will be looking out the same window as we are.
.But they will have taken advantage of what was there for them..
By then a lot of us will not be griping on the Steel Guitar Forum..I wonder what Forum the now generation will be on..One thing for sure it will be a MUSIC forum..Probably from the home of Country music..Los Angeles California..Ain't life grand..Enjoy it..

Well! Tonight is the KINGS " Stanley Cup " for Country Music in Los Angeles,California.I'm sure happy it's not in Florida or it would be the " Gator Cup " for Joe Casey.Well Maybe that would be a good thing for (Joe Casey) him! I get the feeling that the beer songs are getting to everybody with a " Red Solo Cup " and that tear in my beer is in that truck. Go Angeles!

It was the CMT awards. Not the ACM's or CMA's. Although the music content is probably the same, it's giving praise to the music over approximately the last year.
It's basically the same as new country radio but in video format.
I'm always astounded that people seem surprised and annoyed by the content. I don't know why anyone would expect anything like traditional country on these shows when they are only representative of the current airplay.
As an aside, I did a festival weekend past for a FD crusade fund raiser.
The organizers auditioned a band. They liked them, their appearance, their music, everything about them but wanted them to add in some newer stuff. They refused. We got the job because we were willing to be more versatile.
Some of the same music as seen on CMT. Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan, Montgomery Gentry, Chesney, Jake Owen, Toby Keith, etc.
Some songs on the list: Alone With You, Drink On It, I Don't Want This Night to End, Where I Come From, Somewhere With You, A Woman's Touch, Let Me Down Easy etc.
At least a dozen of the tunes we did referenced drinkin' and partyin'.
You gotta roll with the punches. Guys of my status and most gigging musicians have no control over the business end of music. All we can do is try to stay current, be willing to contribute as best we can and hope that music in the future that will have more depth and be more permanent.
Griping about the current state helps nothing nor no one and changes nothing.
Neither does it do anything to support your steel guitar brethren in the trenches that come up with new things or new ways of saying the same things time after time. Personally, I don't know how they do it. They must have a deep well to draw from. I know it's a real challenge for me to try and cover things that are all in a day's work for them.
