Doug,
I don't like Carrie's new single at all ! She needs to stop screaming and sing well written songs like the girl I voted for on American Idol !
I don't like Luke Bryan's new single at all !
I don't like Chris Young's new single at all !
Yes, I think Lady A is awesome !
I love Miranda Lambert's new single !
I'm not a fan of Eric Church !
AND I'm not a fan of Dale Watson !!!! :)

It doesn't mean they are trash...... and they've never put out good material...... :)

I try not to be so negative in my comments. I guess alot of you don't like it.

I don't care a whole lot for Dale Watson either, but the rest of the Texas folk (like Digby, Trevino, Sweeney, etc) just knock my undies up around my neck (that means it's good).

Just one question. You really think anyone cares about your opinion on country music? You obviously don't care for anyone else's thoughts about music. It seems anyone who disagrees with the new country scene you can't wait to stick the needle in them.

George,
Really? No..... I've never thought anyone cares about my opinion in music. I'm a member on the forum and voice my opinion as you do.
I happen to disagree with alot of you when it comes to new country. What's your problem with me?

Look here. Thanks to Brad Paisley three of the boys from ALABAMA have a career, and they gave it to Lionel Richie to be in Country Music. Just like " Country Boy " Aaron Lewis featuring George Jones & Charlie Daniels to help keep Country History Artist alive. Just like my Book Title; " Who Used Who " My Memories ". It's coming real soon.Soon as I get out of the " Poor Side Of Town ". See that Red Solo Cup is helping Wayne Newton too! ;-) Uncle Leo

ok...i have to say something....

the band perry was hot hot hot. those kids can sing...they can write...they're sexy without being cheap...and their sincerity level seems miles above everyone else!

the band perry...dumb name....great group!!
they put all the so called pros to shame!

reba and blake were cheap cardboard cutouts reading someone's idea of a comedy routine.

reba has been a real disappointment compared to her younger sincere country self. she has become the mediocre actress she has been portraying for years now.

Theresa, even though it seems we probably have different tastes in music, I've certainly never heard anything disparaging from you. I appreciate hearing other people's opinions about music or whatever.
I'm not a big fan of most of the new country stuff. My solution is listening to music I like.
BTW I do like Dale Watson, maybe partly because my old friend Don Pawlak plays steel for him.
Anyway I enjoy reading your posts. Keep it up.

I'm thinking that, too. Did you see Steve Martin & Travis Toy with Rascal Flatts?
I'm wondering how it sounded.
I was watching Steve very closely, at first he had it going on and than after the first chorus I think he got lost in the mix and it all fell apart. He did look pretty cool up there with the matching suits and all, and youd have to have a pair to get up on National TV and let it all hang out even if ya know youre not up to par with the rest of the pack so I applaud him. Plus he's funny as hell.
Planes trains and automaobiles is my favorite. 8)

So... George Jones is "for new country to carry on"? George can spot a fraud when he sees (and hears) one. Like he said, they should find another name for this stuff, another genre, and stop masquerading as something they are not. It's a case of Identity Theft...

This is happenning in every genre of music today, Taylor did get 11 awards last year but she is a pop singer in my eyes and Carry Underwood shouold be considered R and B becuase to me she sounds like a clone of Christina Aquilera. Nobody is denying them of their talent but I hate to see them pulling country music in that direction.

That was me with Brad. So, now you've not heard Randle OR me.

So many out of touch comments on this thread, I don't even know where to begin or what to say. Geez. Some people in this world are making a living playing music. Myself, and all of the other guys/gals who are doing so, are very blessed. The narrow scope and close mindedness of so many on this forum, and elsewhere, is quite disappointing. Obviously everyone is entitled to like what they like, etc, but it's a real drag to read through page after page of negative comments about people playing music for a living. It only shows that there is a huge difference in mindset between those who do perform for a living, and those that think they know all about it, but really have no idea.

Sorry guys, it's just hard to not take it personally. All the best...

Travis, sorry I didnt know that it was you and not Randle but have you even watched the show yet? Everyone except for Brad was in the dark and there were no credits at the end as to who played so how in the heck am I going to know that you played that set? My MAIN POINT is that the sound guys for the most part never get a good mix on these shows Its not as eady as it sounds but it would have been nice to hear any steel at all! I watched that award show 2 times and I'll be darned if I make out wether it was you or Randle or who ever so if that is youre point than yes I agree with you I shouldnt have assumed who it was. Although I don't claim to know everything about music, I do claim that my ears work good, ask anyone who knows me!!!
Here is a comment I found that you made in another post
"A lot of people probably don't realize I also played steel with Brad Paisley on the show. Unfortunately, those were some of the absolute worst TV mixes I've heard in quite some time, and my steel was essentially off. "
So I guess that you agreeg with me.
Have a nice day.

Travis, I haven't read all the comments or even seen the show, but I gather that most folks are commenting on the spectacle of the show and how far removed Country music seems from what they know.

I have to admit, I did not grow up with Country music and I'm not really qualified to make any critical comments on the music today--I don't listen to it.

I'm sorry if I said anything that offended you. If anything, the working musicians are the only ones who give any kind of credibility to the music at all.

And Theresa--you know I love ya, I just always remembered that Dale Watson comment and I've been waiting for an opportunity to use it. Who do you like better: Dale Watson or Joshua Ledet?

Everyone was good on the awards. I enjoyed prettty much all of it. Jason Aldean was my favorite of all (go Jason) with Rascall Flatts being a close second. I enjoyed Steve Martin showing his banjo skills. I enjoyed Reba and Blake doind there comedy thing, it was a hoot! I also liked Eric Church and Blakes performance. So all in all, other than the less than appealling sound mix it was good.
Travis, I humbly apologize if I did offend you man it wasnt my intenttion. I do understand what you guys go through, its not easy. Hope to see you playing steel (and banjo) this summer in PEI at the Cavendish Beach Country festival.

Well said Travis. It's about time someone "in the know" finally spoke up. I didn't see the show (don't have TV service where I live) but always would watch the awards shows when I did. Fortunately, I like all kinds of country music, be it old, new, pop, whatever. What some don't realize, is there was as much garbage in the old country as there is in the new country. You either like it or not.

I don't know Travis, but I (as do most of the folks I know/work with) really like his boss's work. Boy can slap get after it. As someone making a (meager) living at it, but not in a high profile gig, I don't think the thrust of negativity is directed at the performers - at least not from this observer's point of view.

Face it...ANYONE who gets to the level of national radio, a national label, and so on, has talent, and LOTS of it. That's not the debate. What (I think) is the debate is the genre's branding. Some of us older folks have seen this a couple of times before, when the status of 'country' really had little in common with what a great deal of traditionalists think of as country music. Perhaps some of us are TOO old fashioned? I just don't believe for one moment that the way folks dressed at the ACM was meant to appeal to the base, the core, of country music fans - the good folks in west Texas, Iowa, Kansas, you know, rural Americans. A man dressed like George Straight could walk into any establishment in rural American and immediately blend in, whereas the majority of acts I saw on replays could walk into the same establishments and immediately be seen as outsiders...

Just another opinion, but a there's a lot of folks who just don't 'do' outsiders. When I go to NYC, my Stetson stays in the hotel room for a reason...

sorry for the ramble...and Travis, I'd like to buy you a cup of coffee if you ever get out this way
