Richard,
I'm thinking that, too. Did you see Steve Martin & Travis Toy with Rascal Flatts?
I'm wondering how it sounded.

If they showed up at my door, my poor old heart would finally give up and put me out of my misery.

Never cared for ACM awards. It was way too Hollywood way before all the others. I do not support any of the award shows or mainstream radio.

So much negative over "KISS" giving an award at the ACM.

What about George Jones presenting at a Rock awards show? It will never happen.

I think George Jones would be honored to say the least to be asked.
He's been for new country to carry on...he hasn't dissed anyone to my knowledge.

Leadbelly is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the Nashville Songwriter Hall of Fame. So what? :D

George may be honored, but apparently not asked.

And like George probably isn't like into "dissing" anyone, like wow. :P

So... George Jones is "for new country to carry on"? George can spot a fraud when he sees (and hears) one. Like he said, they should find another name for this stuff, another genre, and stop masquerading as something they are not. It's a case of Identity Theft...

Seriously, this sums it all up for me and I would think most of the fans of real country music. I feel like a rock star? Well then label yourself a rock musician and quit pretending to be country. Cat's out of the bag. This sounded exactly like a song by Oasis (I'm a rock & roll star). Huge drums, walls of distorted guitars. Unreal. Right after that, they wheel out Ashton Kutcher who attempts an acapella version of Cross my heart.. god lord.. make it stop..Missed Lionel but made me think of the Alan Jackson tune (gone country) anyone?

Yea George! They are talented musicians, but not Country for me. And sorry folks Lionel Richie and KISS are not country either. What next Prince doing Hank Williams and Jimmy Rodgers covers? What the hell did that goof ball Kucher think he was doing?

Boom boom bah, bah boom boom bah! Yeah, that's country. What a clown show. Take your distorted guitars and B3 organs and stick em' where the sun don't shine!

Right on, Kevin. And don't forget the pyrotechnics. Nothing says "Country" like 50 ft. flames shooting up on both sides of the stage, screaming fuzz tones, keyboards, and wannabe rock singers high-fiving teenage girls in the front row. That show was a complete fraud. Maybe 10% country music and 90% pop/rock/dance. Take away all the flames, noise, glittler, dancing, and T & A, and all that's left is poor songwriting, poor vocals, and mindless music. Other than that it's fine. :\

May I suggest that THIS is what labels, A&R, and what-not think the country music listeners/buyers want? Perhaps they are not that far off base.

As I bemoaned in another thread, a Moe Bandy show was not a sold out event, a Gene Watson/Ray Price show was nearly sold out but 80% of attendees were over 50, etc. Seems that just good new country music is off the airways except for indie stations, attire that belongs in a rodeo dance and not on a rodeo clown are a thing of the past, fewer and fewer people even know how to just two-step even. Played too many gigs in which the dance floor was so-so, but when the band took a break and the DJ popped on a hip hop tune, the floor packed up...Wannabe cowboys and cowgirls wearing more bling than any rap hopeful is not an unusual sight, as evidenced by the TV show in question.

I'll stop pounding my cane now.

Today's Country and seventies' Mainstream Rock have something in common. Two songs compared with each other:

Sorry I missed it. Actually, I've missed every CMA show.

Mainstream music today is like the movies: everything is over-the-top, lots of crashes, explosions, etc., sensationalism.... Sometimes what most of us need is something human we can feel. That's why a movie like The Artist, which was very good, had such great success. It managed to present a good human story in an entertaining way without pandering to the audience (well, not too much).

I believe that the entertainment world is much different then the musical world which I love. I will continue to seek out music that moves me and forgo all the other stuff, although sometimes I might enjoy something for a moment. I have young kids, they like a lot of what they hear for the reason that kids do, but I will always catch them singing and watching YouTube videos of songs they learned from me.

Ken, I agree. The music industry is giving the public what they want, so ultimately the public is to blame for the dumbing down of music. We see this with television programming too. People like simple, mindless entertainment, and the industry is more than willing to give it to them and take their money.

Perhaps this explains why the music industry is dying faster than the buggy whip industry? They AREN'T giving people what they want, and are dragging all of us down with them
