My name is Nicholas Ackron. Some of you may remember me as the soldier that your organization donated a steel guitar to take with me when I went to Iraq on a tour of duty. I served in Iraq 9 months until I was injured and I had to return to the states after having surgery on my knees. Upon my returning to the states the steel guitar that your organization donated to me was stolen.
I am writing this letter because I am in need of an eight string lap steel on legs, and I am asking for donations to help assist me in being able to purchase this steel. I currently play a ten string pedal steel MSA in which I’m in the process of having to stop playing due to complications with my knees. Your help with any financial assistance would be greatly appreciated. I'm not begging for money but if you could donate anything then I would really appreciate it from the depths of my heart!!

Here's another deal...
I have three postings in "For Sale: Music, Lessons,etc". One is print items, one LP records, and one CDs. For ten days from this posting anything that anyone buys from those listings will have 10% of the gross price set aside and sent to Mr Ackron via PayPal as a "gift" so he incurs no fees. I also give the SGF 5% instead of the "recommended 2.5% donation". An example...if I sell $5000 worth of stuff (I wish!!!) Mr Ackron would then have $500 in his steel guitar fund and b0b and the SGF would get another $250. All you have to do is mention "Ackron" in your header or text. If you want names and amounts posted I can do that, otherwise I will respect your privacy. If anything actually comes of this I'll report the totals one way or another and Mr Ackron can confirm the amount received. Thanks...

I have to second Chris's suggestion...

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for lending a helping hand, but you're overlooking a huge resource if you already have a pedal steel in your possession. There are several options that could immediately put you playing all the non-pedal steel you could hope for.

1)Retune to a B6 and ignore the top 2 strings. You can handle the 2 lowest strings in a couple of different ways.

2)Retune to A6 and ignore the top 3 strings

3)Retune to C6 and remove or ignore the top 2 strings.

4) Restring the whole thing with a C6 string set and leave the pedals off completely and play it as a full non-pedal C6 with 2 added bass strings.

5) If you're determined to play with 8 strings, restring with an 8-string set in whatever tuning suits you.

No matter what you do, you won't be making permanent changes and you can retune, restring, reset the whole thing to standard E9 whenever you get back up to speed.

I understand what you're saying and to be honest if I didn't have a bomb knees and a messed up back I would consider doing what you guys have recommended. I hab arthiritis in my lower back that really limits me to taking my steel to different church functions. Once again, Im not trying to scam anyone or anything of that nature, I wouldn't do that because I wouldn't want anyone doing that to me. Be blessed and thanks again!!!

Hi sir, I really would but the MSA was passed down from my great uncle. He played that steel in the Grand Ole Opry back in the day so he's trying to keep it in the fam.

Hi sir, #1- I've been a Travel agent for a little while now and thanks for letting people now that.#2- the reason I need a lap steel on legs is because the MSA is too heavy with or without the pedals!!! Its a 1974 so that means its old and a lot heavier than most steels today!!! #3- the lap steel I used in the video belonbged to one of my steel friends that went to that church. I'm not and I repeat I'm not trying to get over on pedal but I'm going to continue getting negative remarks and comments from people then I really should forget about this post and playing steel!!! Since seeing your two posts seeking to take advantage of such good natured people here on the forum, I've managed to resist posting anything overly negative. But, my father, father in law, grand father, and uncle all served in the military during three different wars and my brother in law retired from the Army after 22 years. I believe your post is degrading to yourself and in insult to the fine people who have served our country!

You state forum members were already kind enough to donate a lap steel to you and it was stolen. Then you show you have an MSA and other amps and equipment but you still want members to donate "money" to your cause! You keep reflecting upon the use of "injuries" you sustained that make you disabled and continually using the words "sir" and "god" in your postings. These are tactics used by many people who are being deceptive! You say you play for a traveling church group, and who better to help you obtain a lap steel with legs???

Then these videos surface and the fact that you run a travel agency and now you're using the forum to advertise your travel agency? I don't think that meets the criteria under forum rules and hopefully bOb will remove that advertisement. It certainly has nothing to do with steel guitar or any related equipment!

Do yourself and most of us here a favor and show a little bit of dignity and self respect by removing or closing these posts. Your heading says it all..."soldier in need" You are trying to use that to take advantage of the the kindness in people and I find it very offensive to say the least!!!!

I'm not in a position to help you, but perhaps you can find support from the Sacred Strings community as well.

I remember you posting some Sacred Steel clips last winter which I enjoyed very much.

I'm hoping for a blessing for you that you will be able to acquire the instrument you need.

Thank you for your service. I have a sister that came back from Iraq injured so I know it's not easy. I hope things work out for you. The clips posted show you can clearly play very well. I hope you stick with.

You were in the service and you attempt to squash one of the things you fought for, freedom of speech? I will say what I want where I want. As long as i am not breaking any rules. I am entitled to my opinion. Don't even presume to tell me what to do. Truth hurt? Your attitude is not excusable just because you were in the military. You're not the only one. Some a lot worse off but they are not begging for anything.
