now that I have this 67 Emmons, and doing studio work with it, I have a problem with single coil buzz..or should I say the enginner does.
You guys that play the P/P's in the studio, are you having this problem and if so,how do you fix it? I go out of a Evans Pre into the board W/no effects.
Thanks, for the help!

Reverse the polarity, use a parametric EQ at the buzzing frequency with a very narrow band, move to a different location away from the lights, move to a different studio.... The list goes on and on.
Well, the hum is caused by something in his studio. I've recorded with a '65 and '66 Emmons in some studios that are relatively quiet
and others that aren't. Usually, it's so slight that it's not heard in the mix anyhow. If he's that fussy about it then let him find the culprit.
P.S. I guess you tried a noise gate, right?

J.R. I know where you worked and it's the studio. I had the same problem with and without humbuckers. Had it direct and with an amp. Played the HR Zum and Joan's Milly. Came home wondering what was wrong with my rig. As to other places, never hear a peep from anyone.

Oh I forgot, they will never say a word to the guy with the tele plugged into 18 stomp boxes and a stack of Deluxes turned on 10 that you can hear humming and buzzing in the mens room. Just sayin....

Ha...OMG; you are so right Johnny...ha.
Hey I found that using a pot pedal with a single coil pickup hum/buzz or even a studio that doesn't have proper wiring/shielding; helps tremendously; but here's how it's done.
Never open up that pot in the volume pedal more than half; for your full volume feed. So get the level on the amp or pre; or whatever is amplifying your sound, so that you will be giving them the signal they need, with only using no more than 50% of your volume pedal.

I've worked with engineers who take a recording of the buzz and then create the sonic opposite of the wave, which cancels it out pretty close to completely if not totally. You'd never hear it in the mix anymore.
Some studios are notorious for buzz activity...There is an easy grounding fix if you are using the open bottom Emmons style volume pedal.
Get some aluminum foil and fold it several sheets thick in the shape of the volume pedal and slide it under the pedal....99% of the time when the foot is on the volume pedal it grounds out any buzz problems....If you are hearing a 60 cycle hum, thats a different animal.

Mike, What I was taught by those more knowledgable than I, the typical buzz has to do with the way the building is grounded....The levels of underground water levels can cause it to intensify.....The aluminum foil trick helps give a direct ground to an otherwise ungrounded buzzing problem......I have an older model power conditioner and it does not really help with those issues. It does help maintain the level of power going to my racks amplification which is more help with consistently maintaining the amps tone settings than anything else.
Thanks Paul. I had not mentioned this, but 2 weeks ago, give or take a few days, I was supposed to play at 2 concerts, in 2 different places, for slain journalist Daniel Pearl. (I mentioned the concerts in the event announcements section.)
There was so much buzzing in the second place that I literally could not play, had to sit out. I drove to the place and set up my stuff for nothing.
