My new Webb... I think it's a peice of history.

This was a gift to me from Sam Lawrence of ElDorado, Ar. Inside the back, the maple was left with a natural finish (instead of the standard black paint) so that it could be signed "To my friend Sam Lawrence, Best wishes, Jimmie D. Webb 11-17-97". Instead of the standard Webb logo on the front, Jimmie fitted it with an engraved gold plate reading "Sam Lawrence - Claiborne Country staff band". According to Sam, Jimmie D. Webb says the tolex that covers this amp is the left-over tolex from Jimmy Day's famous "Beautiful Blue" pair of 6-14-E amps. Has anyone else got a Webb of this color? Or a signed one???

Awesome looking amp. Never played through one, but from what I've read here on the forum, one of the best sounding amps.

As far as it's sound... WOW. I'm amazed EVERY time I turn it on. It's also the best fiddle amp I've ever used.

Hey Jake, that matches your guitar. You'll have to bring it over some night and let me try it out. Sure is nice looking amp.

Scott, never shall I ever. It's truly the nicest gift I've ever been given. I'm really wanting to get a road case for it, but I don't know of anyone who makes one to fit these amps, and to custom-order one to fit costs an arm, leg, and firstborn male child.

Jake, my last bandleader said he knew of a place to get road cases custom made for under 200.

I can ask if he remembers where
2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects

Hello Jake, I also have a blue Webb 6-14 E like yours. It used to belong to Pee Wee Whitewing and then Robbie Turner I'm told. It at one time had Fender tilt-back legs on it but it now just has the holes plugged. I bought it used at our local steel guitar show but I sure do love it - Definately a wise investment.

My red Webb was signed inside by Jimmy. I got to check the date, but it was mid-90's I assume.

Great amp, great color, Jake. I had an Anvil road case made for mine years ago, I'm sure they could still do that. But they're local in Los Angeles, and as I recall kind of pricey. There are many more options these days.

At the very least, get a good cover for it (D2F is what I use).

Enjoy that great Webb sound!

Case

Post by David Alexander »

Jake, I bought an OSP ATA case made for a Fender 69 Bassman and cut out one layer of foam to make my Webb fit perfectly. If you will look at the pic of the inside you will see there's two sections of foam on the four corners. I cut the outside section of one side out. I bet you can contact them at their warehouse in Ft. Smith and pick it up there saving on the list price and shipping. I picked mine up there when our band was going thru on a road trip. It's an excellent case. I believe it was Ft. Smith but it may have been Fayettville. I just noticed you live in Arkansas. DA

case

Post by David Alexander »

The Fender 59 Bassman was a single unit bass amp. You can do a search on ebay and find several of them. I'm attaching an ebay link to a case like I posted pics of. I just checked OSP's web page and they were bought out by Elite Audio(www.eliteaudio.com) in 12-11. The old web page gave a number of 1-888-613-4230 but I don't know if it's still good. I live about 125 miles west of you in Durant, OK. I also have a D2F cover for mine and I use it unless I'm hauling the Webb in a bus or trailer.

Contact Tom Bradshaw for the remote. Not sure if he has them laying around though. Maybe someone could post a schematic of the wiring in one. It can't be difficult to make one. If someone could post one, I can put it on a page on my website for the future.
