Guys, Mike Brebes wants (and DESERVES) $2,000 for his services in authoring the DVD. He wants $500 ASAP, and is happy to take a buck and a half per disc as the are sold over time.
This is not at all excessive, considering how much time and work he put in. Those of you who have the original VHS tapes, will immediately see and hear the difference in quality and between them and the disks.
So I have to shell out around $2,800 in the next few weeks, which bring up my next question:
What do you guys is a fair price? b0b suggested 40 bucks. Is that too much? if 70 of you guys are willing to pay that much, I'll break even quickly.
As I said earlier, I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm not a mogul or entrepreneur, and I'm probably doing this all wrong and am making all sorts of mistakes. I just got these videotapes for my own viewing pleasure back in '86 when they were first recorded, (literally the day after the concert in the case of the L.A. tape) and then later realized that they were important and needed to be made available to the public.

Buck. The quality does leave something to be desired. But it's 1,000% better than that of the videotapes that were put out in the past.
Among other things, Mike Brebes lifted the soundtracks from the videotapes, digitally enhanced them using a pro audio system, and replaced the original soundtracks with the enhanced ones.
The DVDs were made from Beta tapes that were direct copies of the original VHS master recordings. The original tapes of the L.A. concert were lost when Jack Lox died. Scotty still has the original tape of St Louis concert.
These first beta tapes have not been played since 1987. I copied them, and made all the VHS tapes from the copy, so as to preserve the originals, which I've kept in a drawer all this time.
We all wish these concert had bee recorded by professionals, using pro quality gear, but they weren't. They were recorded on consumer camcorders, using standard VHS tapes. As good a job as Mike Brebes did restoring and enhancing them material, there's only so much anybody can do with this type of thing.
Still, anybody who is familiar with the quality of the VHS tapes that are floating around will be astounded at how much better the disks are.

$40 seems too much to me too. I think I'll charge $30. If 100 people buy them at that price I'll be OK.
Once I've broken even, b0b and Scotty (who support themseves by selling these kinds of products) will be taking over the sales, and yes, they will each earn some money as the disks are sold. Since there people earn their livelihood servicing out community, I think that's appropriate.
I may eventually see some too, but once I Bobby and Scotty start selling the discs, I will be only getting the wholesale price, and i will have to pay Mike Brebes a portion of that money. This is not going to be a profit making venture, and I'm not doing it with the idea of getting rich. My reward is knowing that I did something important for our community and made a real contribution by preserving this video ad making it available.
As far as money is concerned, all I want at this point is to recover my expenses.

Guys, the disks will be available sometime in mid January. I will make an announcement as soon as I get them.
PLEASE DON'T SEND ME ANY MONEY IN ADVANCE. I appreciate your trust, but I can cover the bill from the duplicators. It will be easier for me to mail out the disks as the checks come in than to take advance orders.

Mike-I have the videos of Curly and bought them when we made donations to help move Curly from Las Vegas back to Nashville.
The videos are not too good , but it is Curly and Bobby Caldwell, so I will be glad to get the higher quality DVD's. So as John Hughey says, I'll take one if I am still alive,lol....al

Guys, at the moment, it appears that the disks will be available in mid to late January. I am hoping to have them in time for the Mesa AZ show.
