Jerry Reed

Post by Jason Schofield »

I've been playing the guit-fiddle for over 27 years now. When I listen to Jerry Reed.. I just can't help but think that there is no way this style can be taught.it's in the blood..haha.. btw.. when I waited tables down in Nashville I got to wait on Chet Atkins once. He was very frail and it made me sad. But he is the greatest ever.. I ran back into the kitchen saying, man that's Chet out there...and all the idiots in the kitchen were laughing at me and saying Chet who? Jimmy Page and Hendrix were the greatest (hey, at least they had some taste) but no frickin clue.. made me cry a little.. Chet and Jerry.. thank you..

Chet was popular in the days before distortion became
popular. Now, any shmuck can turn on distortion and sound like they can play.

It might be quite likely that Jimmi Hendrix and Page were fans of Chet, or at least aware of his talent. But mostly the general public wasn't.
It's hard to believe the story told by Gene Parsons that Jimmi once made a compliment to Clarence White on his picking, and Clarence didn't recognice him.

Barry this is the little story:

Here's a story told by Gene Parsons:
"One night when we were playing at The Whiskey and we were in the dressing room
this really well dressed black man wearing a feather in his hat walks in and
says "Are You Clarence White? And Clarence says "Yeah". The fellow adds
"I've been listening to you for years, and you're one of my favorite players"
So Clarence says, "Wow, thanks a lot, and what did you say your name was?" The
fellow says, "I'm Jimi Hendrix"
