Sin Wagon by the Dixie Chicks
Nice fast steel lick at 3:19, and lots of burning licks from all throughout.

Pete Finney played on that tour - I was at the Oakland show, if it's the most recent tour from around four years ago - the Chicks hairdos and clothes seem to be in keeping with their look at the time. His face looks a little "distorted" in the "action shot" posted by Barry, but I'll say it's Pete, and maybe he will will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.

Well then, good call on Robby. I've never met either Robby or Pete, so I threw it out there as being Pete. Robby looks to be bigger guy than Pete from the few photos I've seen of either fellow. Maybe this isn't even the same tour as the show I saw - or if it was then maybe Robby filled in on some of the dates, because Pete was defintiely in the band for that go round.

Gotta say, the clothes the Chicks are wearing take away from their beauty.
Who is that guy playing the acoustic guitar? I have seen him in other videos by the Chicks and he blows my socks clean off.

I remember Keith Sewell playing electric guitar with Ricky Skaggs (in RS' pre-bluegrass days, of course). Keith played beautifully.
I met him a year or two later backstage at the Opry and I got him to show me something really tricky that I'd seen him playing with Skaggs.
I'd wondered what had become of him. Great player!

I must say that I was very surprised that something so inconsequential as Natalie's somewhat careless remarks could have derailed such a flourishing career. I didn't think it would have a long term effect but clearly I was wrong.
It's a great shame as I think they're amazing - thoroughly musical and with an obvious love for the roots of country music. I really don't want to politicize this thread, but I was dismayed at the knock-on effect of that much publicized story.

But, it used to be both.Maybe it's because they're about music and not about sex appeal, or their clothing line and beauty products.

Keith Sewell's home page makes for an interesting read:

Thanks for bringing his name up - I'd temporarily forgotten him!
PS: I see there that he wrote 'From The Word Love' for Skaggs - one of my favoutite RS tracks from a very fine 1991 album, 'My Father's Son'.

Keith is back playing periodically with Earl. Also with Lyle Lovett. I also saw him with Jerry Douglas several years ago. What a great picker.
I didn't catch Earl's set at last month's Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival in San Francisco, but I saw them last year. Almost too much lead instrument action up there. On guitar there was Keith, Brad Davis, and Randy Scruggs along with Rob Ickes on dobro. Hard to give all those guys a chance to shine in a 50 minute set.
The deal on the Chicks the last I heard was that Natalie Maines just hasn't been into going into the studio and out on the road for the time being and content to be a stay-at-home mom and working in the garden.
I saw the two sisters with their band Courtyard Hounds in summer 2010 at an outdoor concert at Robert Mondavi Winery in Napa Valley. Good show, but they were doing all new originals. and though some of the songs were pretty good, I didn't think there was enough songwrting quality there to carry off an entire concert. I was hoping they would dip into the Chicks catalog a bit or perform some covers of great songs. I've thought over the years that the Chicks for the most part are at their best making great song choices from writers like Darell Scott, Patty Griffin, etc.
The Dixie Chicks did play a handful of shows the same summer opening for The Eagles as Henley, Frey and company were out pushing their most recent album.

Tim: It was at a theatre in Shepherd's Bush, West London where I saw Keith playing with Ricky - could you have been on that gig too? Did you follow Terry Crisp into Ricky's band?
I can't recall the year now, but I do remember not being able to recognise the steel player by sight. Did you ever play London with the band?

I recently saw Robby Turner play at the Labor Day Sho Pro event, he is a great player and nice guy.
Natalie Maines is doing well and living in L.A. She is producing some films, spending time with her family and doing a few dates with the Chicks. I understand that they are in the studio and I know they recently played a benefit for the fire victims around the Austin area..
Yes Rodger, It was a very hard personally for them all, they are great people.. It was especially bad in her home town here in Lubbock. People can be very cruel sometimes.. Believe me though they are doing fine personal and finically, instead of selling 6 million copies of the Home CD as Sony had projected, they sold 30 million worldwide because of the controversy... Except for loving to play music, they don't have to ever do anything else for income... We are all the losers by not hearing more of their great music. Natalie is my niece and all her family are very proud of her...

Wally, I had no idea Natalie was your niece - does that mean you're married into the Maines clan, or would it be that Lloyd's wife is your sister? I'm trying to figure out the "math" here.
A few years ago Lloyd did a show here with Terri Hendrix. I had somehow heard through the dobro players grapevine that he was interested in finding just the right resonator guitar to buy so I brought along my Clinesmith for him to try and he really liked it. He had a Gibson Dobro he was using at the time, it looked a lot like the now discontinued Al Perkins model but no Al signature anywhere to be found. He asked me what I thought about it and we did a little impromptu jamming. I remember thinking to myself: "Lloyd Maines is asking me what I think of a guitar? This guy has been one of my favorite musicians for years!" Well, it was a really nice guitar, which is saying something because Gibson has put out a lot of junk since they bought the Dobro brand in the 90's. At any rate I told Lloyd I thought it was a keeper and one of the best sounding Dobros from Gibson that I had ever played or heard.
And what a nice gentleman Lloyd is. He told me that he knew Natalie would do something in entertainment from about the time she was two because she was always the loudest kid at the Maines picnics. And he had a photo of Natalie's kids affixed to the top of his guitar - a proud grandpa! I'll always remember that visit with Lloyd, he struck me as being a really good guy.
