You write a verse.

Post by Bill Dobkins »

I thought it would be fun to write what we all think would be the epetimy of a new country song a verse at a time.
Here is my verse:

Well its Saturday nite I got a hot date- My truck won't start and I can't be late- So I called her on the phone and ask her- would you like to take a ride on my big green tractor.

You can climb up in my lap and drive if you want to
Girl, you know you got me to hold on to
We can go to town, but baby if you'd rather
I'll take you for a ride on my big green tractor... ;-)

I'm gonna do some plowing tonight
I got my tractor tuned up just right.
I'm gonna shift that baby into low
And get myself ready to sow.

You can set on my lap and get a big thrill,
Cause every time I see you I get cold chill.
And maybe we'll kiss as we drive up the hill,
But if you won't do it, I know your sister will....JH in Va.

thats when she left with an old boy i know-ed
it was the end of the line, as i tried an' i tried
til' i watched 'em vamoose, then i cried an' i cried
she left me for good, when she left me alone
but the best thing she left was this sad country song
burma shave....

Reading all this reminds me of a song my Dad sang on the bandstand in the 1940's. It had several verses but it started like this:
She's got freckles on her but...she is nice
She's got freckles on her but...she is nice
She's got freckles on her cheeks,
on her knees and on her feet...
Oh, she's got freckles on her but...she is nice

She stepped out of the pickup, with only a nightie on,
her hair was a sweaty mess, tangled, dirty and long.
The beer held in her right hand, she quickly guzzled, and spit out the foam.
Said, if anyone here wants a good time, just buy me some gas to get home.

She totaled our tractor of love
I curse her to heaven above
I'm sellin' the John Deer and openin' a cold beer

Okay.

She totaled our tractor of love
I curse her to heaven above
I'm sellin' the John Deer and openin' a cold beer
She totaled our tractor of love

Why baby, why baby, why baby, why
The mortgage was paid and the levee was dry
You left me alone flickin' flies off my thigh
and wonderin', why baby why

The last verse:
Then I wake and look around me
At these wires and microphones that surround me
Then I realize that I was only dreamin’
Cause there’s and engineer and an un-autotuned vocal track
Twistin’ knobs he’ll fix the talent I lack
And again I’ll shot a video on my green green John Deer tractor back home.
