Starting Over Again and Need some Re-cap of how to do it!

Post by Tony Palmer »

About 12 years ago, I purchased Band in a Box from Jim Barron at a STL show.
I loaded it and 4100 of his files on my laptop.
It kind of overloaded my hard drive so I didn't use it much, as it slowed down the rest of the laptop, etc. So, long story short, I never really learned to use it or get comfortable with it.

Please bear with me as I have several questions!
1)Are general business duos, trios, singles, etc. using BIAB for their tracks, or do they use something different?
2)Is there still a bank of BIAB song files, contemporary versions, that are out there available either for free, trade or sale?
3)Is a laptop still the preferred method of delivery for live performance or do most of you convert them to mp3 and use an ipod or something simple?
(I realize that would eliminate the ability to change tempo, key, etc. but the convenience factor is pretty huge)
4)Note: is Jim still around or do I contact PG music?

My needs are not that complicated, as I just jam with fellow musicians but we're all mostly guitar players, so we really just need bass and drums.
I should also say I really have NO interest in programming my own tracks!
I do have a lot of CD's I've purchased over the years that are back up tracks, but I need access to classic rock, pop, etc. as well as some country...and the ability to change keys, so I know BIAB will work best.

Tony,
I may be able to answer a couple of your questions.

First, I use BIAB for my tracks while performing with my daughter in our contemporary Christian group, just Her on vocals, me on Pedal Steel, and BIAB through a lap top into the mixing board for the rest. Works great for us.

Second, I prefer to program my own tracks, that way I can get exactly what I want. That said, there are several very generous guys and girls that willingly share their tracks. You can find several right here in this forum section.

Third, Big Jim is in fact still around. I don't have his contact info handy, but he's easy enough to find using google or other search engines.

Hope that this has been helpful, and I'm sure that others will chime in.

Good Luck,
David
