Jazz Room at the ISGC

Post by Jim Stahlhut »

Well I've been working hard preparing for the first Jazz Room at the ISGC. It's coming along great. Scotty and I have been working together as a team again and we are going to pull off a great show. So far the confirmed players are Doug Jernigan, Paul Franklin, Jim Cohen and Maurice Anderson (Maurice is going to try to slip in when and if he has time, I think he'll be there). Bob Deboo is playing acoustic bass (he played the Reece Jazz Show in Denver with me) and I'll play guitar, we're looking for a drummer. The times for the Jazz Room will be 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM Saturday in the Jefferson Room Labor Day weekend. I'll keep my website up to date on the details http://jimstahlhut.com as things change. Also I'll post the schedule on the forum when it's finalized. Paul Franklin's set will be a jam session so who knows who all will show up.

It was a year ago I recorded my Jazz CD "Out Of Nowhere" with Reece, July 25th and 26th. Wow time flies!!

Jim, is the jazz room going to be a scheduled performance type of thing or more of a jam session for those who would want to join in?

Performers will have 30 minute time slots and will be arranged ahead of time. Paul Franklin's set will be a jam but I would think only major players would be in that. If you want a slot or know of someone that should be on the show let me know. Basically the whole show will be set up ahead of time and noone would be able to sit in unless it was OKed by the scheduled performer.

Hi Jim, you buddy george from michigan here. I am so so glad to hear you are doing this. And with your great guitar expertise, and the line up you mentioned above, i know it will be a "True" jazz showcase. Not a bunch of cowboy hats trying to play jazz. I will try to peek in and say hello, can't promise yet at this point. Are you going to try to record some sets? will you be playing that great sounding Les Paul of yours? yes it's been a year since your great CD, that only means, it's time for another! Jazz is not just great music...it's a way of life!

Goerge you know me and know I'll do my best to make the Jazz Room a true Jazz experience. And I want to thank the great players that have decided to play. I will record it on minidisc and I'll be playing that Les Paul you know it has a carved top and back as well as being semi acoustic, it's cool. Actually I'm working on the second CD now. I'm trying to write tunes and arrange it, Seamus Blake (who plays in the Mingus Big Band out of NYC) will play tenor sax on it. Check out the Jazz Room I think everyone will enjoy it!

I'll bet you could get Jimmy Queen to play drums at least for a few slots. He's got to be one of the best and most versatile drummers anywhere.

Yes this has really gone smoothly "no fued" as you say. Scotty has been great in helping and supporting my efforts on this. THANKS to Scotty! I think I'm all set up, the bassist has gotten a Jazz drummer that he has worked with and I'll finalize that today. Thanks to all the drummers that offered their help. I wanted to get a drummer that had played Jazz with Bob DeBoo so we could smoke from the first tune. I think we will, so the steel players will be driven to play their best. I do still need two steel players (I haven't heard from Buddy, ARE YOU OUT THERE?), so If anyone has suggestions email me or put a post on here. Some of my email has not gotten through so if you don't here back from me email me at my website http://jimstahlhut.com Thanks for everyone's support I think this is going to be a great show!!

I am very close to the final list of players for the Jazz room: Doug Jernigan, Paul Franklin (jam set), Maurice Anderson (probably will play on Paul's jam set), Jim Cohen, David Wright, and Bob Taillefer. I need to add 1-2 more players, suggestions? The rhythm section will be myself on guitar, Bob DeBoo on acoustic bass, and Kyle Honeycutt on drums. This is the real-deal Jazz rhythm section. I think it all adds up to one great, fun Jazz time. Hopefully in a week I will have the last player picked and I will have the final schedule. I will post it here.

Unfortunately Paul Franklin has canceled coming to the ISGC this year so obviously he will not be playing in the Jazz room. So I need to fill that space, suggestions? I need email addresses of Tom Morrell, Jim Loessberg, and Frank Rogers. Let me know if you have their addresses. Am I forgetting anyone?
[This message was edited by Jim Stahlhut on 04 August 2006 at 07:37 AM.]

Bob, I just got an Email back from Dave Easley and he can't make it this year. He was hoping to do it next year, I hope this will turn into a yearly event at the ISGC.

Jim, I don't believe Tom Morrell has email, but it would be well worth your while to WALK over to his house (even from Denver) to invite him personally, if he would say 'yes'. I'll email ya addresses I have for Jim Loessberg and Frank Rogers.

Jim S.,

Buzz Evans can deliver. He is a fine gentleman in every regard, I hope to hear that Buzz has been invited to the upcoming event.
