Thanks Fred, I think it's time we got a steel show going at Marshfield and this area. There has always been a great love and interest in music in this area.
I am looking forward to hearing all the great lineup of players. This is going to be a great show, and we added two more great players to the lineup today.
Phil Coontz and Jerry Roller will be joining us too. Jerry plays the Little Ole Opry Show at West Fork, AR and Phil plays with the Moe Bandy Show and other Branson Shows. Welcome aboard Jerry and Phil. I believe Jerry is also playing the Indy Gospel Steel Show this weekend.
Keith, I had a paddle used on me. They referred to it as "The Board of Education." It enlightened my perspective from the backside. I'll never forget the teacher that used it. She scared me half to death, and when I made the mistake of trying to get friendly after the first paddling, she proceeded to paddle me twice. I think I got 13-14 swats with that board. They said they could hear it two doors down the hallway. Of course today we no longer do that, we use "the love and logic approach."
I am looking forward to the very first "Marshfield Country Music and Steel Guitar Show."
GOD bless!

Hey Keith, How about making a steel guitar body from that old cedar paddle? I would like to hear you play it.
For your first selection, you could play a song that described your situation after the principle used it on you .... "Don't get around much anymore".

Mr Fred Layman is joining us and has a great set planned for the show. Fred is a member of the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame Board. He is the author of some great steel guitar materials. He has built steels and owned a steel guitar company. He is very knowledgeble of the steel guitar and its players. He had several successful years of a steel guitar show in Kentucky. We want to welcome him for the very first Marshfield Steel Guitar Show.
GOD bless!

Forum Members,
Keith was the principal where I attended Jr. High School. He was a Great Principal, and he also taught Math and some English classes. The students liked him very much, then he left us one day for the US Marines and wound up in Vietnam.
What I remember the most about Keith was two things. He helped me with my Math. I was a struggling student and from a single-parent home. He helped me get the basics of Math right and I was successful in High School because of his help.
Number two, he brought his electric guitar. Yes, he played 6 string guitar well and he played for us. This left a lasting impression on me, a 12 year old at the time and since I already dug guitar and was playing a few chords on the 6 string by then.
Keith could have been a great Superintendent of a School system, but sometimes life puts things in front of us and for whatever reason or reasons we wind up changing directions. Next time I saw him; he was playing steel guitar and burnin' up the road. Next, we both wound up playing music in a place they now call Branson, USA. You know the rest of the story.
John, I hope you can make this show. So you don't get a paddlin'! Ouch!
GOD bless you all!

Terry thanks for the invite but I guess I'll have to miss this one, I'd love to make every show but can't.
Shucks I was just through there 4 days ago, then back to Tulsa in a few weeks, my van is trying to hide from me now. But I'm sure this will be a good show, have fun.

While Terry and Keith are in the confessional mode, let me add that I got sent to the Superintendent's office five times for various infractions during the 8th grade at Marshfield. Invariably the Superintendent was out of the office and I had to wait and sweat until he got back. On the wall across from where I sat there was a plaque that read, "When that one Great Scorer comes to write against your name, it matters not whether you won or lost, but how you played the game." At that moment, I was not too worried about the one Great Scorer -- figured I'd take care of that down the line. My more immediate fear was hearing the heavy footsteps of Superintendent Ellis Jackson coming down the hallway for my more immediate judgment. But I ended up becoming a Methodist seminary professor for 30 years, so maybe some good came from the experience,

Hi Keith,
Yes, the words out at Conway. As matter fact Larry Rifenburg is coming to play and sing. He is a beginner steeler but a Great Country Singer. Sounds like Gene Watson on Farewell Party.
The Ezards are both gone. I attended Mrs. Ezards funeral and it was the second largest funeral ever at Conway. People filed through to view her for hours. Only Steve Vestal's was larger and as you probably heard he was killed a few years back by picking up a hitchhiker on I-44. His wife was left with three little boys all grown now. Steve was a great guy and probably your student when you were teaching Math and being a principal at Conway. Mr. Ezard passed away about 2 years ago. He lived to be 93 and traveled all over the world. He lost his eyesight in later years. Mrs. Ezard loved the Steel Guitar and had my very first steel guitar tape I recorded with Shoji Tabuchi.
Fred, I loved your story. I have hear many stories about Ellis Jackson. I laughed and laughed when I read your story. I guess I can relate, because Mrs. Graves had heavy footsteps when she came down the hallway for me at Phillipsburg Elementary. She could swing a paddle like Mickey Mantel hit homes runs.
Looking forward to the 1st Annual Marshfield Steel Show!
GOD bless!
