Mike, on that we can agree!Seriously though, I think this song is life affirming. It's about kids having fun. There is so much negativity and anger and hate projected in so much music, I find the innocent joy this song projects to be a welcome breath of fresh air.
If I had teenage kids I'd much rather that they listen to this than to all the negative stuff that's out there.

Come to think of it,I agree with Mike. It's just a silly,CLEAN,teeny bopper song. Light years ahead of the filth by Eimeim,Snoop Dog,etc, about incest, killing cops, and all women are ho's. YOU BETCHA,DYK?BC.

I agree. You may not like the song, but to me, the definition of a good song is when you heard it once, you can't get it out of your head, or by the time is half way over, you can sing along.Charles Davidson wrote:Come to think of it,I agree with Mike. I've heard much worse on today's country radio, and even the Grand Ole Opry in recent times. To me the timing and structure is the same as some of the new country acts. I do miss the steel with the excessive use of the first string raise.
I think you've got a point.

The lyrics to Alone Again Naturally are really depressing, but I like the music. I think it would make a pretty good steel guitar instrumental.

Yep, nobody does depression like the Irish, but I agree Mike, it would make a great (steel) instrumental.
Andy - a "truly bad song?" Hardly. This song was covered by artists like Neil Diamond, Johnny Mathis, Bobby Darin, Sarah Vaughn, Nina Simone, Shirley Bassey, Elton John and the Pet Shop Boys, and Cass Elliot. It was also #1 in Billboard for six weeks in 1972. Obviously, it had something going for it, but in spite of that, I guess we all have our opinions.

Apparently.Duane, there's no accounting for taste ……
I don't know how it happened, but the radio in my car got turned on accidentally this week (I'm usually more careful !). Anyway, the song was accompanied by the typical insistent plastic dance beat, and some chick singing "I like my bass real low..."
How profound, I thought. Before spending too much time wondering what sort of bass isn't "real low", or wondering how insipidly stupid you would have to be to buy music so pointless and pandering, the breathless announcer surfaced, wiping the drool from his chin, to tell me that it was the newest, latest, greatest, by.....
Brittany Spears.
I thought she'd already been relegated to the "What were were thinking" bin.

Ever hear the sho-biz axiom "There's no such thing as bad publicity?" It's true. The more people complain about Friday being the worst song ever, the more people will watch the video.
I was told that the best thing an artist can hope for is for 95% of the people to love his or her work, and for 5% to hate it with a passionate hatred usually reserved for mothers in law and vampire serial killers from outer space.
(Somebody please write a bad review of my CDs. Pretty please.

That which comes from a J-bass bridge pickup through a Peavey solid state head an matching 8x10... That can sound about as low, rich and deep as someone shoving ballpoint pens in your ears...with the caps on.John Steele wrote:some chick singing "I like my bass real low..."
