"Worst song ever"...
...That's what this is being called. It's a viral hit, but...
http://www.youtube.com/embed/CD2LRROpph0
...Honestly, I thought it was a joke at first. It's the product of some indie label in southern California that's trying to produce young stars, ground-up.
Put this on and see what you think...my opinion is that the lyrics are mind-numbing to the point of absurdity, and the singing is like a cheese grater up the back of the neck.
Very hard to explain how this came into existence...

Here's the lyrics for all you guys that secretly dig the song but are too embarrassed to admit it.
(Yeah, Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ark)
Oo-ooh-ooh, hoo yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah-ah-ah
Yeah-ah-ah
Yeah-ah-ah
Yeah-ah-ah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
[Rebecca Black - Verse 1]
7am, waking up in the morning
Gotta be fresh, gotta go downstairs
Gotta have my bowl, gotta have cereal
Seein’ everything, the time is goin’
Tickin’ on and on, everybody’s rushin’
Gotta get down to the bus stop
Gotta catch my bus, I see my friends (My friends)
Kickin’ in the front seat
Sittin’ in the back seat
Gotta make my mind up
Which seat can I take?
It’s Friday, Friday
Gotta get down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend, weekend
Friday, Friday
Gettin’ down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend
Partyin’, partyin’ (Yeah)
Partyin’, partyin’ (Yeah)
Fun, fun, fun, fun
Lookin’ forward to the weekend
[Rebecca Black - Verse 2]
7:45, we’re drivin’ on the highway
Cruisin’ so fast, I want time to fly
Fun, fun, think about fun
You know what it is
I got this, you got this
My friend is by my right
I got this, you got this
Now you know it
Kickin’ in the front seat
Sittin’ in the back seat
Gotta make my mind up
Which seat can I take?
[Chorus]
It’s Friday, Friday
Gotta get down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend, weekend
Friday, Friday

Gettin’ down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend
Partyin’, partyin’ (Yeah)
Partyin’, partyin’ (Yeah)
Fun, fun, fun, fun
Lookin’ forward to the weekend
[Bridge]
Yesterday was Thursday, Thursday
Today i-is Friday, Friday (Partyin’)
We-we-we so excited
We so excited
We gonna have a ball today
Tomorrow is Saturday
And Sunday comes after...wards
I don’t want this weekend to end
[Rap Verse]
R-B, Rebecca Black
So chillin’ in the front seat (In the front seat)
In the back seat (In the back seat)
I’m drivin’, cruisin’ (Yeah, yeah)
Fast lanes, switchin’ lanes
Wit’ a car up on my side (Woo!)
(C’mon) Passin’ by is a school bus in front of me
Makes tick tock, tick tock, wanna scream
Check my time, it’s Friday, it’s a weekend
We gonna have fun, c’mon, c’mon, y’all
[Chorus]
It’s Friday, Friday
Gotta get down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend, weekend
Friday, Friday
Gettin’ down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend
Partyin’, partyin’ (Yeah)

Well, I couldn't make it past the first chorus, but I like the line, "gotta have my bowl".
Then she ruins it with "of cereal." I'll bet she hasn't a clue.

They could have put this thing out of its misery by writing...Yesterday was Thursday, Thursday
Today i-is Friday...
...Tomorrow is Saturday
And Sunday comes after...wards
The clock is on the wall,
The hands turn clockwise..
They are powered (yeah yeah) by an
E-lectric motor!
I wonder if Frank Zappa would've liked it..

I beg to differ Barry, "Surfin' Bird" (the actual title) is brilliant. It takes real talent to come up with something that dumb, and to turn it into a mega-hit that makes millions? Pure genius.Barry Blackwood wrote: "Bird is the Word" ... )is) still wins for "Worst ….. "
I kind of like this song. (Not enough to want to listen to it again though) It's dumb and inane, but at least it doesn't degrade contain any profanity or women as being "ho"s and doesn't advocate violence.
If you want to hear some REALLY bad songs, watch Elvira's Movie Macabre. Often the flicks she shows are from the late 50s or early 60s with teen age heroes, played by actors who also sing.
The singing in these films makes Roberta Black sound like a cross between Dolly Parton and Aretha Franklin by comparison.

Precisely calibrated for the 13 year old audience,as evidenced by the zits.Culturally,we don't expect anything deeper than this from 13 year olds, and conceptually it's a lot the same as "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini".
The only thing that disquiets me is that this material is the golden oldies of 2060,and I'm not sure I want to think about what will pass for pop culture in that fast-approaching year.

I actually think this is a pretty good teen pop song. My god, no one expects Lennon/McCartney from a teen pop song. Remember Yummy Yummy Yummy I've got love in my tummy.
The company who put this out is like the old "demo" companies: The mother of this girl spent $2k for a song and a video. The production company gave her the choice of 2 songs, and did the video and it took off from there.
Good things about it: the girl (although her voice is autotuned out of existance) actually has a strangely compelling tone to her voice, maybe because it is so strange sounding.
Millions of hits later, a trip to Good Morning America, the video featured by every comic....I'd say the mom got her money's worth.

So that's why that song sounds so bad. There's no steel with excessive use of the first string raise.Rick Campbell wrote:I don't see what's so bad about it. I've heard much worse on today's country radio, and even the Grand Ole Opry in recent times. To me the timing and structure is the same as some of the new country acts. I do miss the steel with the excessive use of the first string raise.
Sho-Bud Pro III + Marshall JMP 2204 half stack = good grind!

Come on Barry. I suppose that next you'll be telling me that "Plan 9 From Outer Space" isn't the greatest movie of all time.
Seriously though, I think this song is life affirming. It's about kids having fun. There is so much negativity and anger and hate projected in so much music, I find the innocent joy this song projects to be a welcome breath of fresh air.
If I had teenage kids I'd much rather that they listen to this than to all the negative stuff that's out there.
