That's cool, but I'm even more interested in the working aspects of the site. I'm no tech reading comprehension whiz, so someone telling me in Dick and Jane terms just what positives SC provides, and the negatives vs similar sites, is easier to digest.

Those songs are all pre-release mixes from my latest CD, Wine Country Swing. The guitar is a Desert Rose S-8 tuned to D6/G. I played through a Pod XT into the recorder (no amp or speaker).

The only other sound hosting service I use is BandCamp. It's good because you can sell downloads, but it doesn't have the neat embedding gadget that SoundCloud has.

BandCamp doesn't sound as good because they stream a lower res version when you listen online, but users can download a CD-quality version of the track.

Soundcloud

Ron, why I use it:

1. It is dead simple to upload, to embed into other sites, to link, to share (email, etc).
2. The sound quality is good. Whatever compression algorithm they are using is more than acceptable. I've had people tell me it sounds better on Soundcloud than on iTunes (I put the exact same song file on both and I agree).
3. It's free. I opted for the lowest level paid so I can arrange the songs and move them around but the free version is fully functional.
4. It looks good. The graphics and interface are engaging and, in the words of my 20 year old DJ son, "cool"

I don't have a dog in this fight but it's free -- try it yourself and see what you think.

Lovely Brumley-style you're throwing down there, Gary. What is that from?
