Tune Of The Week #1 - Buddy Emmons

Post by Joe Goldmark »

Steeler: Buddy Emmons
Artist: Ray Price's Cherokee Cowboys
LP Title: Western Strings
Tune: Twinkle, Twinkle little Star
Label: Columbia CS 9139
Year: 1965

http://www.vinylbeat.com/forum/23Twinkl ... leStar.m4a

Buddy takes a left turn midway through this fiddle tune. Enjoy.

I'd like to post a great favorite tune per week if it's OK with b0b and everyone. I got some help figuring out how to do this, since I'm a dinosaur. So please let me know if you're unable to open it.

Thanks,
Joe

It's sure ok with me! Great cut, thanks. Is that bass line really doubled or some kind of studio effect?

What a great idea Joe! Keep 'em coming. Besides the outrageously cool solo, the background work Buddy does throughout the tune is worth the price of admission on it's own. Great stuff!

Interesting to compare with his version on "Buddy Emmons Sings Bob Wills". Funny that his solo on the band version is even more 'out there' than on his own album.

Thanks, Joe -- THAT's the Buddy Emmons we all know and love. 8)

Thanks guys, I'll be posting some more. It will be fun to showcase some killer picking. BTW, I think Tore is right that the only way to find this tune and the album on CD, is in that Bear Family box.

Thanks,
Joe

Thanks Joe. For those of who may not know Joe Goldmark personally, he has an extraordinary record collection and if he starts posting a song a week or more we are all in for a rare treat. Thanks again, Don
