I don't want to start a dog fight .In your opinion, with the guitar you play, which guitar that you have played,do you think is the best one.

Best Steel Guitar
I don't claim to know it all, but I have been playing steel guitar for 54 years and been selling steel guitars for over 44 years and for my taste the Mullen G2 is the best I have ever played, bar none.

Purple and green steels sound better than black or red ones.

Of all the modern steels that I have played, (bearing in mind that there are some of the more rarer ones that I haven't played), I can think of two that didn't have the dreaded 'zzzzzzing' as the note decayed.
Some folk actually like the zzzzing, so if you are one of them, disregard my post

Over the years, I have had a Franklin, several push-pull Emmons, and several Sho-Buds. (Living here in Nashville, that's kinda what was here.) Hands down, the best recording guitar I've ever owned is my Zum Stage One. It has the best presence in a track over any of them, and for me, that is most important. YMMV.

Re: Who builds the best pedal steel?
Hey why not, I'll play, I have owned Sho-Buds, Emmons, MSA and a few Carters, my current Carter is the best Steel I have owned..
But, the thread title question is different than the topic question..
Who builds the best
vs
Which one have you played is the best

Attention Doug Earnest
Hey Doug, you oughta copy this one to your website. Coming from Michael Douchette, it's probably the testimonial of the year!Michael Douchette wrote:Over the years, I have had a Franklin, several push-pull Emmons, and several Sho-Buds. IMHO probably for overall quality and playability, though I've never owned one, Zum Steel. The guitar I'm currently playing ranks right up their, though.

That's a hard one, but as far as best steel I've ever played, I think the Jackson BlackJack Custom is the best one I've played. There are so many great steels bein' built, though. The last few years, I played Emmons and GFI, but the Jackson is the best one I've played for a lot of reasons. Built by three wonderful friends of mine with tone that is really amazing!

Who builds the best (topic title) and what is the best
you have played is really two different topics. Also
each person has their own opinion to what goes into
the making of the best. Many companies
today make great guitars, one of which is the Williams
