This is such a great web-site. You have done a great job with everything. Jody should be proud.

Can you do a guest book? I think it would surprise us to see who hits the site.

The music really adds to the site.

Wow, Rick, my hat is off to you. You have gone above and beyond the call of duty.

I know that Jody is thrilled and all of us greatly appreciate your endeavors.

Rick...You have done a tremendous service to all of us in forming these great pages on a Living Legend. Jody's story about the "FRETS" is beautiful. I have his lp and listen to it frequently knowing I will never reach the heights he achieved on steel. Jody and I have never met and most probably never will. Nonetheless, I consider him to be amongst my closest friends and I am eternally thankful to b0b...were it not for b0b and the Forum, I would never have known of Jody up here in the northern reaches of Canada. Rick, you have honored Jody by doing this site. Again, my thanks !!! Image Image

Great site, Jody!

The HCOA is one of my all time favorite albums. It's a must have for any steel player or enthusiast. And it's perfect for *anyone* who loves great music! The songs on the disc are some of the best...classics...songwriters haven't written great melodies like this since the hey-day of american popular music. The guitar duets of Jody and Johnny put a flavor in these recordings that can't be heard anywhere else.

I like the pics of all your guitars, Jody. They are beauties! And I enjoyed reading the "Frets of my Life." Can't wait for the book! Image
[This message was edited by Jeff Strouse on 05 July 2005 at 02:32 PM.]

Jody, I really enjoyed the article, "The Frets of My Life", and I think that the playing was fantastic. I can only imagine how good you are today. I am probably in your age bracket or older and I can only imagine the sadness of your loss.

Hard work does pay off!! Rick, you've created a wonderful web site for Jody Carver. Hopefully, in the near future, some young "squires of tweed" will visit and will be inspired to take non-pedal steel guitar playing to a place even Jody hasn't imagined. Although.....that's really hard to imagine.

Mike Gross asked me to post this for him:

quote:
I am not a member of the Forum but it would be my honor and pleasure if you could place the following on the thread for me.

"Jody Carver has recorded so many masterful pieces of music over the years. The Hot Club of America album is just the tip of the iceberg. I also love to play some of his session work on my show and it is really interesting to see the variety of stars that Jody has recorded with. He has some dandy recordings with Vaughn Monroe, the Basie band, Elton Britt, Montana Slim, Rosalie Allen, the Fontaine Sisters and I can go on and on. I really wish that someone would undertake a project of compiling Jody's session work into a CD or CD set. It would probably have to be done overseas where the copyright laws are different but it would truly be a listeners and DJ's dream."

Thanks in advance, amigo and especially a big thank you for all that you are doing for "our living legend" Jody Carver.

More later,

Mike

Thanks Gary, Chuck, Gene, Howard, Keoki, Greg, Jeff, Ron, Charles, and Mike W. for your support and your kind comments. And thanks to our friend Mike Gross, who has done more to promote Steel Guitar and good music than any "non-member" I know of.

Jody,

Since so many people always ask you about figuring out the date of old fenders could you write something about your vast knowledge on this?

There is so little information about old fenders. I am sure everyone would love to have a reference page.

Thanks,

Now back to your regualrly scheduled program.

There is much I dont really know. I will try to help those who I am able. Sometimes I even
forget what my name is.

My ledger book with all the Fender information as to who the product was sold and shipped to was given to me by the late Forrest White who recieved it from Leo Fender
prior to Leo's passing.

Leo's Mrs. requested that I send the ledger back as she felt it was her property and I respected her wishes. I'll do as best as I can and look up the little I have left.

Thank you for allowing me to write a column is the Newsletter.

Jody.

Tomorrow July 12th will be a very special day for me.

I will meet a friend who I haven't seen for 54 years. We met as teenagers back in 1949 when I was just coming into my Fender career.

It was during my very first pro job as a steel player. And since that time I have never seen or heard from my friend again.

We lost contact, but in March of this year, through the magic of the Internet and MOST of all,our own Steel Guitar Forum, this ole dear friend of mine found this steel player.

She was surfing the net when
lo and behold, there I was. She e mailed me to offer her condolences
for the passing of my wife Marilyn of 51 years this past November 15th of 2004.

All those years I wondered what ever became of my buddy, when all at once, we became friends again over e mail and phone calls back and forth.

As fate would have it,Tomorrow I will see my friend of days gone by for a few hours as she flys in from the west coast. All the years I was with Fender at the factory in Anaheim did I know she was only a few miles away where I spent much time all those years
I never knew how close and yet so far this friend was. Both of us were born in Brooklyn.
Many moon's and happy years have followed since that day back in 1949,many happy & sad and times of frustration followed since then.

I was a young man all of 19 years old. She was a teenager at the early age of 16 years old.We became buddies for two years when the strike of fate made us part.Often my wife and myself would discuss what ever happened to old friends of our younger days. The Magic
of bOb's SGF brought us together once again.

Tomorrow for the first time since way back when,as she flys in from the West coast on her way to Ireland,I will see my best friend
How excited I am and nervous as well & I know that many tears will fall from our eyes as we see one another after all those years of a "Time Gone By". It will only be a reunion of a few precious hours, but it will bring back memories to me that I never forgot and never will.

Much has to be said in a short time that we will have together, and the Kleenex tissue will be working overtime as my heart will be beating
as fast as fast as a Jet plane can fly. It may very well be the last time in my life that I will see her again, but God has given us the short time together which I shall cherish for what ever time I have left. Wish me luck as I need all I can to keep my emotions if getting the best of me.

This by far will be one of the most happiest times of my life and emotional as well.

Those if any are not aware of fate, ask me and I will ask God WHY ME? Thank you bOb Lee for your Forum this happy and this once again strike of the hands of God would never have been. God Bless all of you, I know my late wife Marilyn will be looking down on me and my friend of yesterday
and smiling as if to say, Jody you are a very
lucky man. And that I am. Thank you and Thank God. This is one for the Book. The Book that God wrote for me.Look for a cd release as my good friend sings songs that we both danced to way back when. "The Sands Of A Time Gone By" If those of you remember the great music that was written back then will appreciate this cd.

This is why I composed the "The Frets of My Life" I realize that time is running short as that old "Outlaw Time" will catch me. The Frets of my life are close to the end, but never will I forget this day as long as I live.

Rick & Gary,

“Well Done” is better than “Well Said”, both of which, you guy’s do in an exemplary manner. The time and effort you put in this endeavor is a work of love for Jody and all that share the love of Steel Guitar.

The passion and dedication you guy’s, Jody and the other’s who give so freely for Steel Guitar, its players, is truly inspirational. I have personally benefited and learned from you.

I am in the Airline business for 40 years. Those of us in it have a passion for airplanes, its people and its customers. I can tell you this, from what you guys demonstrate so consistently….Steel Guitar’s take no backseat for anyone or anything.

I am monumentally impressed as to how tight and family like the Steel Guitar community is. This, in no small measure, is due to your efforts and passion for our instrument. Thanks for coming to work each and everyday and for all the well thought out post’s you guy’s put up.

Reading through “Frets of my life” was thoroughly enjoyable. It’s wonderful story of a life, its challenges, the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat, so to speak….what a fantastic read!!! Image

Ditto all of George Keoki Lake’s sentiments. TX
Rgds,
Ron
