'' Super Super Jam ''

As many folks already know i am hooked on the ''Pedal Steel Guitar '' . No i don't need any help getting off of it . What i would like to through at all steel players here in Ohio and anyone else that might be interested . I would like to see and hear something called a Super Jam . As many of you know i do a Gospel Steel Guitar show here in Columbus once a year as well as being involved in the Ohio Steel Guitar Association . There are many Steel players that i have never met and would love to get to know them . So what i'm thinking is this . Would you players that play in clubs and wherever be interested in doing a big jam where we can get to know one another ? We can do this at some outside venue like a park or something like that . Maybe have a cookout or something like this .
There would be no money trading hands , this
would be a goodwill thing to share your style of music with everyone that may never have a chance to hear you play . We would have sidemen that would be a valuable part of the jam also . I may be a little crazy to think there are players that are willing to do this but so be it . So this is my thoughts and i would love to hear your possitive comments please . Best regards ,,,Gary .

Great idea Gary..count me in for any thing i can do...i'd make the drive..this would be great. Wonderful steel guitar fellowship, much more informal then the convention setting.Exchanging ideas, tips..go for it..

Hey Gary,
That IS a great idea. I had the same idea the first part of last year, and we had our first Jam last June. I hope you enjoy the same success that we have. I have really learned alot from it, and made some new, and really close friends, both steel players and others. We had our 2nd annual jam last month at the Par-A-Dice Hotel Ballroom on East Peoria, and it was truly unbelieveable. This thing just keeps getting bigger. It does get to be alot of work, but well worth it in my opinion.
Best of luck to you, and congratulations on taking the first step to organize something like this. You're right, you'll get to meet and hear steel players, and lots of other wonderful musicians that are always booked that you wouldn't ordinarily get the chance to hear.

Definitely sounds like a great idea. I guess this means Bobby Duncan will be loading the "coach" up with some of our Central Illinois Steel Guitar Association folks up and heading to Ohio...HEHEHE... HINT HINT HINT...

Ya just never know. I have been known to put together a "Road Trip" for a good Steel Guitar Jam. I'm sure Deano is always up for it.

Thanks guys for your response . I think this would be great for all of us . But we need a bunch of the players to get behind this to make it work . Everyone would be involved in this event and there would be ''No'' one man band or big ''I'S'' and little ''u's '' . This would take a team effort to make it happen . Hi Todd . Yes i think it would be a fun time if everyone feels a need to do this but if not it was a great try anyway . I would like to hear from every steel player in Ohio or close by that has a computer. How are we ever going to hear one another play unless we do something like this ? Yes i know i'm very much involved in the O.S.G.A. but i'm thinking about those that don't feel a need to join up with us . This would be at a place that you could feel free to smoke and just be yourself . How hard can this be ??? O well it was a good thought . Best regards to all . Gary .

I'd be interested but with my wacky work schedule, my days off rarely coincide with most fun events. I get 5 straight Sundays off out of every 21 weeks. I'll be at Dave Decker's jam this month, but not until I get off work at 4.

Hello everybody, I want everyone to know that Dennis Robison's Brother has brain cancer and to offer up prayers, he has been feeling very sick lately, he has become a new member of the pedal steel guitar and belongs to the Ohio Steel guitar Association, Dennis Robinson has encouraged his brother to play the instrument since Dennis Robinson is an excellent steel player himself, so please offer up your prayers for his Brother for a quick recovery. steveb.

Come to think of it, many people have the day after Thanksgiving(Friday)off. My wife loves to go Christmas shopping that day, maybe many people Christmas shop that day. Would this date work for anybody but me (Provided we make it out to Ohio for Thanksgiving at all!).

Sounds like fun...and a good time and way to realy play. Not a "SHOW" just an old fashioned "JAM" where everyone gets to play..good,bad,or indifferent!We've tried it here in East Tennessee...but somehow it got changed and turned into more "SHOW" than "JAM". The Mid Atlantic Steel Guitar Assn (MASGA) still (I Believe) have that "Round Robin Format" which I think many pickers like....Pick a song and Play by the seat of your pants...even if you don't know the tune...wing it!! No preasure.
I'm in..and I'll bring some fresh donuts..But lets not do it in the park in two feet of snow!!!
