Definitely fixable. what Dave Magram said, or the thought that I'm entertaining is maybe pull all the guts out of it and have a new body built for it. It will never be the same no matter what you do. But it won't be bad either.

You do understand, if that was an old Stratocaster in that condition it would be worth a minimum of $15,000... there's something wrong with you steel guys, don't you know that trashed = character = da blooz = soul? Tarnation....

David, I am having to leave right now for Cleveland. The car is loaded and Carlene is saying "we need to leave". As far as I am concerned it is a done deal but I need a couple of days to finalize. I am quite happy with the deal. Please call my cell phone (479) 806-5330 or email me your PayPal address.
Thanks,
Jerry Roller

I won't mention the guys name but a guy here had a 66 bolt-on (you know one of those coveted ones) and he would leave it downtown set up and drag it from bar to bar set up, leave it in it's case still set up all over downtown while the customers would walk by. So that tells you how he took care of it but one night he left it set up from his gig at the most famous place on Broadway and walked in the next night to play and he stepped on the pedals and they didn't come back up so he knew something was wrong. The guitar had either been fallen on from a fight or some drunk sat on it and the body had a crack inbetween the necks end to end. He was trying to find somebody to fix it and I talked to him about it and told him I'd just have a new body made and start over. So a few weeks later I seen him and asked what he did with that guitar and he said he fixed it but I never saw him play it again so he probably sold it. Man I sure wouldn't want that one for any price because it needed major surgery. I never seen anybody do the stuff to their guitars like he does, talk about rigging with baleing wire and no telling what else. I'd take this guitar of yours and just have another body made and start over if you want a good guitar or at the very least replace the back apron or whichever one has that big cut out of it. That guy should be arrested for that by the steel guitar police!

That guitar looks like it could be re-done..I would difinetly save the original wood and fix it though, unless it's rotten..A good cabinet builder could fix that bad spot,,by either making a whole new apron or cutting that piece right out to the end plate,,and using strong glue and wooden biscuits,,join on to the existing apron with a new piece...The joint can be made so it would be just as strong and never be seen after refinishing...
It's hard to tell what kind of shape the wood is really in,,because there is so much that can't be seen in the pictures...I wonder what year it is,,early 70's maybe? I'll bet that would be a great sounding steel after it's re-done..You never know,,it might sound pretty darn good right now...Carson

burnt emmons

You could recover your cost and probably show a profit just cleaning the parts in a tumbler and selling them off.

Here is the present state of this guitar. Look what is covered up by that nasty looking blue paint. When I get around to finishing it I will post "after" photos.

I don't know Jerry. I kind of likes the original condition you got it in   Don't see anything wrong. :whoa: :whoa:

Seriously David, if you got it for a good price, you should have a great guitar when you are done with it (well, it will still be a great guitar even if you paid too much).
