Herby Wallace & Joe Wright in Indy!! **4/10/05**

Post by Joe Alterio »

Two of the best pedal steel players in the world, current Steel Guitar Hall-of-Famer Herby Wallace and inevitable Steel Guitar Hall-of-Famer Joe Wright, will be coming to Indy on Sunday, April 10th. Other steelers will also be performing, including Don Curtis, Sharon Denny, Joe Alterio (gulp) and possibly Dewitt Scott.

Admission is $10 for Indy Steel Club members and $15 for non-members.

I believe that the show begins around 11:00 AM. I will confirm and report back!!!

Additional info can be obtained by contacting Sharon Denny at: golddust8@juno.com

The Show will be at the American Legion Post #252 located at 334 US HWY 31 South in beautiful Greenwood Indiana. The phone there is 317-881-1752 but that won't do a whole lot of good until the day of the show. The best route is get to Indy either by I65 or I70 and I74 and take I465 South to HWY 31 South down a few big stop lights and past the Greenwood Mall and it's on down just past the Dairy Queen on the right. There should be a sign or a banner out front. For additional info contact Sharon Denny at: golddust8@juno.com and I'll see you there! I've got my son drumming and my old bass player along with Reva and if the creek don't rise it should be a tight set and I'm really looking forward to it.
So come out and support the Indy Steel Club and hear some great Steel Guitar Music!
Herby sill owes me a 6-pack of Ice Cream Sandwiches...pay up sucka!

Joe, you'll do just fine, I'm sure. I played the Indy show a couple years ago. Sharon and the whole club was really supportive and made me feel right at home. Chet is one of our Lou. club members too....one of several that are members of both associations. The Louisville and Indy clubs support each other as much as we can. I'll try be there for the festivities if at all possible.

Time to make your plans for this show!

Last year, the Indy Steel Club show had just one headliner, John Hughey, and I'd guess that there were at least 100 people there.

This year, there are TWO headliners, Joe Wright and Herby Wallace!!!

There should be a little something for everyone at this show. Hopefully, Herby will do some of his great jazz C6 songs.....Joe will do some of his pure rock and roll songs....Don will do some great speed-pickin and country songs.....

As for my band, we are planning an eclectic set of old country (think '40s & '50s) as well as some country-rock-tinged material from the '70s.

Hope many of our nearby neighbors from Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan and Tennessee can make it!!!!

Herby, the good news is that there's a Dairy Queen right next door, well, you probably already knew that, so now we can finally settle up!

Yes Don,

I hope I can afford to buy all the DQ ice cream I am going to owe you. I have a "Road Story" to tell about this particular DQ which I will tell at the show. It concerns stopping at this DQ back in 1974 when I was working with Donna Fargo. You know I don't like to brag, but I do have a reputation of knowing where all the DQs are from coast to coast.

Herby, there's one less than a mile from my house on the north side of town.....if you stop by, the ice cream's on me. The only hitch is that you'll have to eat it in my basement while you teach me how to play "Four Wheel Drive." Image

Tim, Joe Wright was inducted into the Texas Steel Guitar Hall of Fame this year and I believe is already a member of the Michigan Steel Guitar Hall of Fame, and more to come no doubt!!
Hope to see you at the show!

That is great! I'm getting really excited too...I've been practicing 30 minutes a day which is a lot for me and I wish I could play as good at the show as I do at the house!!!
It is going to be a real treat for me as I will have my own band there with my son, Don Jr. on drums and the incomperable Joey Parmerly on bass along with Reva Brummet on guitar! Absolutely as good a band as I could ever hope for!
Sincerely,
Don E. Curtis
