"Steel" February in the Ozarks

Post by Jeremiah Hanley »

On Saturday, February 27, there's going to be a show in Branson, MO at the Community Center with some "top" pickers. Terry Bethel, who's been with Mel Tillis for many, many years, Dave Musgrave, who's picked with various big name country singers, Roger Blevins, who played for over 20 years with the Baldknobbers, Dean Holman, who has played for big name country singers, also, and Robby Springfield, who is definitely a star on the steel guitar in his own right. And you never know who else may be added to this list. There'll be 'good eats', 'good fun', 'good atmosphere', and lots of 'good' fellowship! You pickers, don't forget YOUR steel and amplifier because the next day, Sunday afternoon from 1 - 5 p.m. it will be "jam" day there at the Community Center. Keep watching for more information about starting time, motels, and etc.

Correction! Correction!! Correction!!!
My memory is the 'thing' that I forget with, or is it because I'm 75 years old! Anyway, Buck Grantham should be on the above list as one of our super pickers at the February 27 Show in Branson! I can't believe I forgot to put my friend, Buck, on that list!

With Dave Musgrave you have one of the very best, he sure did a good job with Ray Price, he came to Pensacola Fl. with Shot, and they did some great playing, he was so good back then, I bought my ShoBud from that show.

Hey, b0b, I want to thank you for offering this great forum and taking charge of it. And I would like to invite 'you' to come to the Ozarks for our February mini-show. I know it's a 'long walk' from CA but just wanted to say 'thank you' for all you do!

I just found out some MORE GOOD NEWS! We had an officer's meeting yesterday and Terry Bethel has added more names to the players list for the February 27 Mini-Show. Mike McGee, Austin Stewart, and Jerry Newberry! This is gonna be Super Great!! The show will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday morning and go 'til 5 p.m. This will be at the Community Center. And listen to this!!!! The admission to get in has been reduced, and it's only $5.00. Over 6 hours of professional steel playing! Wow!! That's unheard of for that amount of money! Make your plans now to come to Branson, February 27-28. There will be a potluck lunch on that Saturday, also. Then bring your steel and jam with us on Sunday, the 28th. All players are welcome. I just talked to Rob Parker and he'll be there. He's the guy every steel player loves to back up while he's singing. And man, can he sing! Jean DeVore will be there singing, too, to add a feminine voice! What a weekend is planned!!!!

Leonard we appreciate all the help we can get. Maybe you can round up a couple of other people with strong backs to help also.
If you would like to help contact Leonard or Terry Bethel.

This mini show is turning out to be a great one.
If just half the players show up, we are going to have a great time.
The show starts at 10:00AM and runs until 5:00PM.
Don't forget about the jam on Sunday 1:00PM until 5:PM.

See you there,

I was talking to Terry Bethel today and he told me that Scotty Henderson is joining that list of players for Saturday, February 27. Scotty's not only a super steel player but also, a refreshing bundle of laughs.....quite an entertainer and a great guy to be around! I envy him, especially, because he's tall! When he and Rob Parker and Robby Springfield are standing together, it reminds me of the scripture that says, "I see men as trees walking"! :) :)

Have you made your plans yet to be at this February event? You'll hear some outstanding steel players!!

Roger Blevins and Dave Musgrave

Post by Terry Bethel »

Talked to Roger Blevins and he can't make the mini-show. He's got family in K.C. he hasn't seen in a long time and his brother is ill and Roger's going to spend some time with everybody. Roger tell them all hi from the OZSGA.

Dave Musgrave will be there. He will play later in the day. He is the only one of the Ozsga ex officers still working, he's playing with Ricky Boen and Texas Mud that morning. Looking forward to hearing Dave play as I have't got to see him play in a while.

Terry, I tried to call, but couldn't get through. Gary Atkinson died last week, and they put Don Tummons in the ground yesterday. Of course this last year they buried John Daughtery. Atkinson, Tummons and Daughtery wrote all the songs on that CD we did at the Studio. Terry this makes me a little nervous. We lost 3 guys who really loved steel guitar. I would like to thank you for letting Gary Atkinson sing on your set at the International Steel Guitar Convention in 2008. Remember the standing ovation Gary got after he finished singing? Terry, our band played last night in Nixa, with around 100 paying at the door, and Roger Blevins was there. Don't know how Roger can stay so young looking. Roger Blevins will be playing Friday night at the same place in Nixa with the "Hub and Howard" Band. That is if it does not snow them out! I am scheduled to play the Auction Barn in Springfield this Friday night. It is a hot band the owner has put together. The lead singer is that good looking young woman singer from Lebanon, Missouri--Elmie Grose. Better looking than the hotties out of Nashville, and she sings real country. The most important thing in life are the friends we make along our journey! Your buddy the Stud Duck of Sparta.
