What have you forgotton to take to a gig in the past?

I can't recall anything I've forgotten, but I'm sure I have. I have friend, a non steel player, who drove an hour and a half to a gig and forgot his guitar. Good friend, but an absent minded professor type.

I forgot my bar once. I used a small glass until a friend of mine brought me his bar. It took a set and a half of playing "glass guitar".
OK David you must have done something to have raised the question?????

I've forgotten to bring extra guitar strings to a gig and broke two!

But more importantly I was traveling to Phoenix two weeks ago, drove an hour and a half to the airport got parked in the parking lot, reached down and......Oh *&^&(_ I forgot my suitcase! Needless to say I missed the flight!

Just got to laugh at yourself on that type of thing.

David,A few months ago I had a gig in Kenai Alaska at a big King Salmon fishing celebration.The band met at my house because I lived the closest to everyone else,The drummer and bass player started arguing about who is going to ride in who's car to the gig about 200 miles away,I rode with the fiddle player,I arrived in Kenai with my Amp,My steel guitar and no steel seat which had my volume pedal picks...well everything ya need to play a steel guitar,I was bummed!For some strange reason our drummer had a Strat in his truck that he let me use,we only played about 10 songs for the whole gig and then they had a banquet and auction,I was very lucky and very stupid this time.Next year we're gonna get Doug Jones from Oregon to play steel,I'll play bass...bass guitar,amp,cord,fishing rod!!

I was at a Buck Owns show in Vancouver, BC in the late sixties and I actually saw the late but great Tom Brumley break a string during their third or fourth song. He had to admit, on stage, that he left his bag of spare strings at their hotel room.

I was working @ a theater about 75 miles from home & forgot my boots. I can't play in regular shoes because of an ankle injury. I had to borrow a pair of boots from the drummer that were TIGHT! About 3 songs into the show I could barely feel my feet! I would run off stage every chance I got & pull the boots off to get some circulation back in 'em. Needless to say I never pulled that stunt again.

I left my entire rig at home once. I had played the night before, and the next morning my wife at the time said she needed to get some groceries. I unloaded the SUV and planned to reload later in the day.

When it came time to leave for the gig, I "knew" my stuff was still in the back, so I drove the hour and a half to the gig. Man was I shocked when I opened up the back and it was empty!

The band leader let me go back home to get my equipment, but it was after 11 before I got back. He was a nice guy and paid me for the whole night, but the guys still remind me about my forgetfulness every once in a while.

Gosh, I really hate to admit this, but I forgot my steel once. I had replaced the felt on the back portion of my case and placed a couple of cinder blocks in there to hold the felt down while the adhesive set (and shut the case). My steel was in another room where I'd been practicing earlier that day.

In the meantime, I'd become distracted by another of those long arguments with my wife (now ex-wife) where she complained that I spent more time with my steel than her and we argued quite a long time that day about it.

When it came time to load up to head to the gig, I lifted my case (having forgotten about the two cinder blocks in it) and feeling the weight of it, thought my guitar was in there.

I got to the gig and opened my case only to realize that I'd left my steel at home!

My 1st gig as a Bass player just happened to be A New Years Eve. I drove 1and 1/2 hours and after loading everything in and setting up . I realized I forgot my Bass.

I also forgot my pants once!!

It was the middle of august in Oklahoma. Very very hot !! Went to change out of my shorts and flip flops and had no pants!! I played the gig in sweat pants !!

Just this last summer I did a festival in the early afternoon, packed my stuff into a golf cart that the venue was using as an equipment shuttle, drove it out to my car, loaded up, drove 2 hours to my evening gig, and realized I had left my steel in the parking lot next to my car and backed out and left it there.

I called my buddy who was doing monitors at the festival, and he said, "yeah, another guy came in from the parking lot with it and said they found it". Luckily the parking lot was reserved for the musicians appearing, so another player must have found it. My tech drove halfway back to the gig and met a tech from the festival halfway to get it.

Ditto what Stu in Alaska said - pack seat - The gig was 40 + miles away .
we had intended to work up some new stuff so i was
there a couple hours before the gig . spent the extra time going
back home for the seat .

Can remember two times.Years ago when I was a lounge lizard playing guitar. Was playing a hotel gig six nights a week.Was used to leaving my guitar on the bandstand.[no one ever messed around with our stuff there] One Sat night took my guitar home to change strings. Yep showed up Mon night thought my guitar was stolen,took me a few minutes to realize [YOU DUMMY YOU LEFT IT AT HOME] The last time was my steel. Had a MSA=D-10 had the case cut down because of the weight. carried the legs,rods etc in a bag. Was booked to do a session. Yep got to the studio,started setting up. Had left the leg bag at home. YOU BETCHA, DYK?BC.

Last year I went to the StLouis Steel guitar convention....a week early. I live in Wa. state and when I got to Chicago call the guy I was sharing a room with and heard this long silence. He then let me know I a week early. I can't remember when it ever landed on the week after my anniversary (Aug.30). Glad I didn't make it all the way to StLouis.

That's forgivable. If you forgot the anniversary, you probably won't get permisson to go to the steel show for awhile.

Got to the studio for a recording session and realized I had worked on my volume pedal and hadn't put it back in my pac-a-seat. They had a cheap plastic one used for a keyboard. It worked fine.

Got to a dance gig one night, same thing. I had to do it the old way without a volume pedal. A long night! Nobody else seemed to notice.

The drummer arrived, having driven 60 miles to the gig in his station wagon, came in the bar and said Hi to everyone, then went back out to get his kit.
He walked back in a moment later with a dazed look on his face. He'd forgotten the entire kit at home. Drove all that way and never looked in the rear view, I guess. Some itinerant drummer in the audience took pity on him and went home to get their kit for him.
Last Monday I didn't really forget, but got called at the last minute to sub on piano with a small jazz combo. I had keys, but no amp. I found out a Nashville 112 makes a really bad piano amp.
