Bo-Bro Users? Question
Just got a Bo-Bro...Haven't had time to hook it up yet. However, it did come with specific directions on how to run the line through the effects loop on a Peavey amp. Does anyone out there have one of these units? Can you run it in line with other pedal effects? I use an RV-3 and a Chourse. Can I just run the Bo-Bro in line with those?

I do, I run it right after my v ped, then into my echo. I usually turn off my echo and reverb when I use mine to get more 'dobroish".
I have also found it is less noisy with a battery versus a power adapter.
The key for me has been to slide a carbon matchbro bar without volume pedal pumps or use of pedals for chord changes. I also think more Shot Jackson than Jerry Douglas, as hammerons with open stings are difficult to sound like a dobro would with the same technique. YMMV as usual though. BTW I use the C6 neck skipping the a string most of the time.

I use mine before the volume pedal. I tried the effects loop suggestion on my NV400, and got a lot of noise and it sounded like crap. It sounds best to me getting the full output of my pickups feeding the unit as opposed to running it after the VP.

Thanks for the duggestions guys. I tried running it in line with the rest f my effects last night. ZIt sounds great. However, I think I'll try richards idea tonight snd run it after my strobo-flip but befors the volume pedal. Do you guys have to adjust amp settings very much when switching from steell to Bo-Bro?

Since I only use it once or twice a night (when I bother to hook it up at all), I just live with the tone I normally play at. I play with a pretty bright tone anyway. It sounds pretty decent. The bands I play with now are trying to talk me into playing my reso, but stages are small and feedback is going to be a problem, but I am working on that.

Ron,
If You Go To Bobbe Seymour's Web Site at Steel Guitar Nashville, www.steelguitar.net and Look to the Left for Accessories and Find Bobro, Bobbe has a Video showing what It Sounds Like & How To Use the Unit. Is It Worth the Money?, I Think So, But Only You can answer that Question based on your Need!, I Hope this Help's, Good Luck, "Keep On Steelin" From The Land of OZ - Howie

I think if you play in a loud band it works, it captures the feel of a reso. I think the key is in the playing technique though, If you play the steel like a dobro, not pumping pedals and not using volume swells, and coupled with a wood or carbon bar it sounds right; more like a reso than an actual reso with a magnetic pickup in it.

Next to a reso (side by side comparison), none of the simulators soung good. But in a loud band situation where there is no chance of the listeners hearing a real reso and a simulator within a close time frame, it works real well. Techniques has a lot to do with the illusion, but I don't agree with most people's recomendation of not using pedals with it. Consider what a Ped-A Bro is, a reso with pedals. Pedals work just as well as not using them. The trick is when to use them and when not to. I recently got the plastic bar and can honestly say I like using my BJS steel bar better. The plastic bar cuts the sustain way too much for my taste. When I compare it side by side with my Tut Taylor reso, the Tut sustains a lot longer than the PSG with the Bo-Bro and the plastic bar.
Now as to the question of whether or not the cost is worth it, my answer is YES. My choice would be a Bo-Bro which is considerably less expensive than a new (or sometimes even used) Goodrich Match-Bro (which the last time I looked was over $700 for the newest model). I used to own a Goodrich, and it was not that much better than the Bo-Bro to warrant the outrageous cost.

I also have a GE-7 and have set the sliders as people suggest. It is not the same as the Bo-Bro sound. But, if you were only using it on a song or two, it could pass. If you were joining a bluegrass band, buy a reso.
