Ann Murray Snowbird Question?
I've been driving about a million miles a week for the last few months ...not much fun.Today I found Ann Murray's greatest hits and popped it in my CD player anywho the intro and first verse in Snowbird has some really great electric sitar,I was wondering who played it? it sounds like Reggie Young to me but there isn't any credits on the CD cover.I've heard that recording a million times and never noticed that before...strange.Stu

Hey Stu,
This is off the subject of your post, but you need to slow down a bit. A million miles a week is way too much, yikes !!

See ya soon,

May be a little off topic, but we do a song at the church where I play that has a Sitar part in it. I play it using a Line 6 Variax guitar, it has a nice Sitar sound, as well as lots of other sounds.

MSA Millennium, Legend, and Studio Pro, Reese's restored Universal Direction guitar, a restored MSA Classic SS, several amps, new and old, and a Kemper Powerhead that I am really liking. Also a Zum D10, a Mullen RP, and a restored Rose S10, named the "Blue Bird". Also, I have acquired and restored the plexiglass D10 MSA Classic that was built as a demo in the early '70s. I also have a '74 lacquer P/P, with wood necks, and a showroom condition Sho-Bud Super Pro.

Darvin,I'd like to try one of those Variaxe's,I have a Jerry Jones Baby Sitar that I use on some session work,I also use it in a soul band that I play guitar in,Jerry Jones builds a great instrument perfect necks.
Ray I'll try my best to get there,If I show up I'm bringing some new one liners not those tired jokes.

Hey Stu, here's what the Variax sounded like on that song. I have the Sitar set up on a custom group next to a Les Paul model, so I just move the 5 position switch one notch when I want to go from the Sitar to an overdriven LP sound. The Sitar patch is going through the same overdrive as the LP patch, so it is a little dirtier than it would be straight.

I'm panned to the left, and our other electric player is panned to the right. No steel on this one.
My 9 year old Granddaughter said this sounded like an Egyptian song. LOL.

Darvin,Man that's some great playing.I can't tell it apart from my Jerry Jones,I could really use something like that where I could get different guitar sounds from a switch,How much do those Variax's go for?Your granddaughter has great ears.

Stu, there are a few different models of Variax's available. The one I used on the song is an older model 500, which can be had on Ebay for $400 - $500. It was replaced a few years ago by the model 600 which should be equally as good. They make a cheaper model 300, but I have heard of some problems with them when they first came out, but they may be better now. The top of the line is the model 700, which has the same electronics as the 500, but the quality is somewhat better.
I just bought a cherry sunburst 700, which has a couple of bad dings I need to fix. The 700's are going for $800 -$1000 on Ebay. I liked my 500 so well, I also bought a 700 acoustic model, and a 700 bass model for my collection.
